I haven't bought a laptop in over a decade but this seems like a good deal? Is it getting negged just b/c there was no price in the title or for a legitimate reason?

Seems likes a good deal to me. FHD, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd, i7 cpu, usb-c, hdmi, 802.11ax, backlit keyboard. Certainly seems to check a lot of boxes.

Comments in that thread lead me to believe the screen may not be that great though (45% NTSC)

No information about an IPS display, looks like a standard LCD.
A laptop at this level should have an IPS display.
Any info on this, please share.

I just looked at the detailed specs and it does say that the display type is LCD. I wish you hadn't asked that and I hadn't looked and found that. Ignorance is bliss! That might kill this deal for me Frown Looking for something around $750 or below that my wife can use to edit photos with Photoshop, and IPS would definitely be better than LCD for that purpose alone.

This Staples Lenovo seems to be similar to this Costco Dell:

Both are priced $649.99 on Nov. 23.
So, chances are that the display is:
LED WVA FHD (1920 x 1080) Display, NOT IPS. The Staples Lenovo is NOT touchscreen.

The Costco Dell though has 1x RJ-45 Ethernet LAN, which is unusual for a laptop these days.
It's Win 10 Home but easily upgraded to Win 11 Home, (and easily upgraded to Win 11 Pro if one has a Win 10 Pro product key). The S mode can easily be permanently disabled.

The Costco Dell is a better deal with the 2nd year warranty, the LAN port, the 15.6" Touchscreen Anti-Glare LED WVA FHD (1920 x 1080) Display, and the 90 Day Return Policy.

Costco also has this for the same $649.99 price, with 16GB memory, with Win 11 Home, BUT with an actual 5400RPM 1TB hard drive, NOT a SSD, and NOT a LAN port:

I have the 14" version with Ryzen 4700u instead. Thinking about upgrading to this 15.6" for more real estate. The aluminum build is nice. Screen is not bad at 300 nits.

update: looks like this laptop has a USB c charger.

Unsure if it's a deal breaker for some, but in the Costco pictures, the charging port looks round and proprietary and not USB C(charging port)
