Does Kapersky still come with Russian Gov oversight? asking for a comrade

"The Department of Homeland Security in 2017 barred U.S. civilian agencies from using products made by antivirus firm Kaspersky, citing "ties between certain Kaspersky officials and Russian intelligence and other government agencies." Kaspersky has denied any "inappropriate ties" with any government. The National Defense Authorization Act enacted that year expanded the scope of the ban to any third-party products embedded with Kaspersky code."

Malwarebytes does not extend subscriptions, so to get the maximum time wait until the last day of your current subscription. Late on that day add the new key. 😀
Thanks! Been using bitdefender forever so nice there was a 2 year one

Just bought Kaspersky internet security last night for $19.99.... while still a good deal, is it possible to buy another activation code and not use it until my current one expires?
I don't know about Kaspersky but I do that with Norton. I purchase codes during December when they are on sale and contact their tech support chat to extend my current subscription validity. Doing it for at least 5 years now. Notron can have only 4 years max validity on their subscription at any given point. I wait until I have 365-400 days available and contact them. I have 2 keys currently on my waiting list as we speak. Thanks

Is this same version of Norton as in the other deals for $25 from Amazon/Walmart etc - I think that is 10 devices and 5 one on their site is $20

But is this same product - hard to tell with the way market and at different vendor

Premium is 10 devices Deluxe is 5 devices. They streamlined their product lineup as Norton 360.

Hi..
I have 2 PCs to install antivirus. Can I buy a "Bitdefender 2 Year/5PCs Download" and use the other 3 licenses once the existing licenses expire on the same laptops ?

Also what will be the order of best performing antivirus from the list above ?

Thanks

You only get 2 years regardless if you use 1 or 5 device.

Thanks for the input. I actually posted on their Reddit and they never responded. They respond to everything but they are real shady when it comes to renewals. It seems they want existing users to renew at the full price.

If I buy this can I renew early and just lose a few days? I actually only have 9 days left on my annual sub. Can I use this and replace my existing sub?

No. All 5 installs start the moment you activate on the first pc. It's 1 two years license that is usable on 5 devices. It's not 5 licenses.

I have an existing Norton 360 plan with auto renewal. Does anyone know if I can cancel auto renewal and when expired add this product key to the existing subscription?

Currently have ESET Internet Security sub until Nov 2022. If I buy and activate a code NOW via this offer, would my existing sub be extended by a year...or would I need to WAIT until the end of my current sub? Thanks!

In many ways it's a mud-slinging contest. Kaspersky's founder and some of its employees have/had ties to the KGB/FSB, and the US government claims Kaspersky is unduly influenced by the Russian government. Meanwhile, some of those working for Norton, McAfee, etc have/had ties with US intelligence agencies and the Russian government claims they are unduly influenced by the US government. Both governments have a long and complicated history of spying on & hacking one another and their own citizens, while using private corporations within their respective jurisdictions to help facilitate it. With both sides largely refusing to disclose evidence of the other's alleged malfeasance and little in-depth investigation from truly objective third parties, it's impossible to know how realistic or accurate the claims/concerns are. For Kaspersky's part, they have moved some of their infrastructure to Switzerland and opened some of their source code to third-party review. And the only well-publicized accusation, the Kaspersky-NSA data theft story from 2017, has a plausible counter-argument.

For those considering their options, consider a threat analysis: what is the likelihood of the security software vendor facilitating government spying for that country's government and what are the potential ramifications in your particular situation? Assuming the Kaspersky claims/concerns are true, users in Russia may prefer to avoid Kaspersky given they fall under the jurisdiction of the Russian government and may be monitored/targeted accordingly. On the other hand, individual American users (outside of those in government service) are likely to have little to fear from the Russian government, with US intelligence having more of a vested interest in monitoring/targeting their activities.

Personally, I prefer Kaspersky IS/TS, which is consistently ranked among the best by AV-Comparatives and AV-Test. But if you're concerned about Russian government ties, BitDefender is also a great (and cheaper) option that's HQ'd in Romania, making it somewhat removed from the primary players in the cyber-spying game.
