Just bought it from my local Best buy....to confirm:

1- It is a touch screen
2- Keyboard backlit
3-IPS screen (1080)

Edit: The listing now says it has a touch screen which makes this an amazing deal, IMO.

Dedicated GPU not necessary for Minecraft and similar online games.

Adds cost, weight, and reduced battery life.
Inferior and costs more for use case expressed.

Intel i5/i7 have Iriis which are more than capable of such games.
Same is true for the Ryzen.

Yes the MSI is a great deal for those seeking a cheap 'gaming' system....its just that one the graphics used in the games expressed work just fine with even quite old iGPUs that are vastly weaker than the current iris ones.

For the "S" mode commentator...."S" mode is nothing more than a default setting that limits what can be done and is mostly there to simplify stuff in theory. If you don't like it...turn it off.

The bestbuy.com local store inventory is not updated fast. Found 1 after visiting 2 stores that had stocks according to the website.

It'll be a perfect christmas present for my kid who is still using a 8yo laptop.

I was worried about hearing about the hinge issue, so this sat unopened for a week. Finally opened it, and I am very pleased so far with it. With these specs at this price point, it is exactly what I have been looking for. I did buy the "accidental coverage" as recommended and extended warranty for 36 months, and with coupon code in box, it was only $70.

Not sure why you think that one is better. Dell is not touch screen and only 250 nits compared to Lenovo's 300. The i7 CPU is 4 core, overall speed is probably 5% faster with more battery use. Yes, it has more ram and SSD, but $100 more? I don't think it's worth it. As for BB return, what I heard is that they accept open computer. So no worry about it.

Just set it up for parents yesterday and it's so much better than a Gateway that I bought from Best Buy via slickdeals many generations ago. The whole thing was set up in less than 5 minutes, easy to change Windows S mode in the Microsoft Store. Anyone recommend a bigger size SSD to upgrade to?

I think double RAM and double SSD price is $100
I hear hinge issue from lots of my friends, so seems to be chronic problem.
May be trade between nits/hinge issue vs battery and $100

250-nits means you can hardly use it in any bright areas. Unless you only work in dark indoor places, you will know the pain pretty soon. Lenovo has 12G ram, not 8, and an additional 4GB at this point doesn't make much difference. But in the end, it is up to what you feel about it.

I opened this up to upgrade the SSD inside. Does anyone see a way to get any of the RAM out? It's certainly not obvious to me and nothing seems to be jumping out at me here. Definitely doesn't look like the innards of last years model seen on the 'tube.
