Since getting Airtags, I'm always in the know. I had a Tile in a ladder that was stolen. I get an occasional update on its whereabouts. Not too worried about the ladder but I can't remove the tag from Tile. Like once a month it would send the location. Even after replacing battery in one tile, it still says it is dead. Granted it wasn't a battery replaceable one. Smilie

I guess that means it is timer based, not actually polling battery data. Keep in mind if your goal is to mitigate theft, the person may be notified with Airtags BUT the method to disable is to remove the battery. Lock it up! Smilie

AirTags have been a game changer.
Ah, ordered some tiles off a deal from SD a year ago. They sent an email saying they were out of stock and cancelled my order but sent a coupon. I ordered more. Both orders arrived. They wanted me to pay shipping to return the "never sent" tiles back. What business practice is that? It was a whole debacle. The service department is incompetent.

I will never trust tile again. You can be right next to them and they fail to activate. Junk, there are better brands available now

at work i put tiles on our departments symbol hand scanners cause they would always grow feet and walk away to other departments. Well, that lasted about 2-3 days until someone took the tiles off the scanners. I guess they thought they could take and use them. so, i put out the word 'dont dare take the $10 tiles home cause they will tell me where you live and you dont want the police to show up at your door over a $10 tile.' the next day they were mysteriously in my desk drawer! laugh out loud

Airtags: If not with your phone and if it seem as moving with someone else, it will start beeping. There are hardware mods that remove the speaker.

The Airtags aren't actually that loud. I was able to cover it under several layers of things and it can barely be heard. I use it in my personal car in a gun safe. If someone steals my car, I don't think I'm without rights to track where they take it. My SO is aware of the device. And frankly my relationship doesn't revolve around trust issues. So aside from "this is so cool, look!!!", I don't randomly check unless there was legitimate cause for concern. I also rarely share my truck.
I get the spousal tracking/ stalker tracking, but idk. Don't illegally track people…. There's a legal system for that and personal tracking devices are not new. Not sure why this is blown out of the water. I want to be able to recover my things/ report them to police.

To give you an idea, this poor guy had his car stolen when delivering food for Uber. They were so distraught. If that thief knew people were using Airtags to track, isn't it possible they wouldn't steal it from the beginning?

Off rant. Airtags are great! Tile is meh. Good luck out there ladies, gents, and other!!!

Saw this today in store.

As I've never used tiles or airtags (but considered both), and our home uses a mix of apple/Android devices, I'm torn.

Is this useful for kid's safety?

Which one has a better longevity with battery (maintains a decent charge with time)?

But tile relies on a network of tile users only, and that's those users who have the app open and location on. That is very small compared to apples user base. AirTag doesn't concern whether who it is trying to ping has an air tag or not, just that they are an iPhone user. This means if you lose whatever it is on you will get more probable, accurate, and frequent location to find your lost item.

I've had tile for years and it could barely find my keys in my house because I didn't have the app on all the time.

Have been using tile tracker since it came out, really liked for what it is. But seems like they were overpriced in the beginning, w/no replaceable battery. Now with apple competition, they are trying to compete w/them with reduced prices. Personally, having both, I am moving towards AirTags as they connect to the phone right away while tile tracker could be glitchy sometimes with the app. As I am invested in apple ecosystem for a while, for me AirTags are much more convenient and like the directional feature on them. It's easier to find stuff with AirTags than tile tracker with directional capabilities and seems volume is louder on AirTags than tile (just me). The only time I would buy tile is for the wallet as they have slim tracker. If someone has an iPhone, I would say try AirTags, as price is almost the same for 4 packs. Also on personal note, I don't feel sorry for tile at all as they had 10 yrs to sharpen their system, bring down the price but all they did was milk it as much as they can. If apple didn't come out with their AirTags, tile would be my choice but personally Apple product is much refined than tile. Sorry for the rant, but I got about 10 or more first gen tile trackers that had irreplaceable batteries lying around in the house, they would have very well made it user replaceable but because of greed, they went that route in the beginning.

Nobody seems to be talking about the true advantage of the Airtags (other than the larger network).

Airtags and Samsung's tracker have ultra-wide band percision tracking. It's a better in-phone, live, tracking system. Tile won't release this functionality till later next year.

Read below for further explanation.

"Beyond basic BlueTooth tracking, these tags also offer a few extra features to help make them more usable and findable to their owners.

For Apple AirTags and Galaxy SmartTag+ its ultra-wideband tracking. If you have an iPhone 11 or above - or the Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra - you'll be able to use precision finding to be guided to the missing tracker by following directions on your phone. For this to work you will have to be within around 30ft / 10m of the tracker.

Currently, Tile doesn't offer a tracker with UWB support, but it plans to launch the Tile Ultra with the feature in 2022.

Tile trackers do however have a feature that lets you double-tap the Tile logo (or a side button on the Tile Sticker) that will allow you to locate your phone by making it ring if it is within BlueTooth range of the tracker. This 'reverse tracking' feature is also present on the Samsung Galaxy SmartTags by double-tapping the Samsung logo."
