I don't have an Unlimited service plan, but I was able to get the phone for $200 by calling the customer loyalty department and extending my contract for 2 years. You can reach the customer loyalty department by calling (800) 331-0500 and saying "customer loyalty".

I think it's a pretty good price for the last year's flagman phone. I'm one of those long-time customers that don't get any love from AT&T since I don't want to upgrade my service to Unlimited. Nor do I have a valuable phone to trade in. So, with this deal, I was finally able to upgrade my phone for a reasonable price.

I just received mine. It's a brand new phone. Comes with Android 11 installed. Samsung supports 3 OS updates, so it'll get Android 12 as well.

Question - how did it end up at 200 for you? isn't 36*5 + 30$ (activation) take you to 210? Also they let you keep your grandfathered (non-unlimited plan)?

I don't have Unlimited and didn't want to upgrade my service. So, I called customer loyalty. They ran my info through the system and said that the best price they could give me was $199.99 plus tax, paid upfront, if I was willing to sign a 2-year contract. They also waived the activation fee. So, I paid $269.11 on the spot ($199.99 + tax on the full price).

Is this common practice now to pay taxes on full price, before discount? I don't remember this being the case a few years back.

Yes, it applied to pretty much all the carrier phone deals I've seen here. I guess the reason is that, unlike with retail discounts, the carrier subsidizes part of the phone's cost. Meaning that the discount is applied AFTER you purchase it. You can think of it as an instant cashback.

I just ordered a pre-owned s20 fe 5g direct from Samsung trading in my S10+ and it was $149 and included a set of Buds2. Should get the phone next week.

seeing this deal I'd still go that route because I hate bill credits and being on a contract, but I am using AT&T right now

So it is only $5 per month on your bill which doesnt start for 2 months. Other than that all you have to pay is the $30 upgrade fee which will go on your bill. So the only thing you have to pay is the tax on the phone, which is around $60 up front. After using for a few days I really like Android 11 cant wait for 12 which this phone is supposed to get the upgrade in January maybe sooner. The only negative I have so far is the no 3.5mm for headphone, but I found the type-C to 3.5mm adapter, but most of my headphone are wireless, always nice to have it though if I forget them. Backup restore was almost seamless, love that feature. I showed it to my son who has a Iphone 12 and he couldnt believe how nice the screen and how fast it is, very responsive for games, opening apps, etc. Also if you need a quick cheap case or screen I took my wifes extras from here Samsung A51 almost identical until I get my order in.

The S10+ will upgrade to Android 12 and the only thing you will lose is the 3.5mm jack.
