Get the HD-58X instead. Much lower impedance and can be driven well by just about anything

Well worth it at $179. I paid $199 around 4 years and still using them with custom ear pads.

I've had these for 4 years now and love them; they work well for me on consumer listening but also music production. Open-back style is kind of annoying if you have any background noise or are wanting to do instrument tracking but other than that, no complaints. Don't need an amp to make them work well for you.

My sage advice / two cents: don't worry about what others are saying about needing an amp—these are a good product as-is, and they're from a great brand with a legacy that's won over and kept listeners for decades.

You can sleep in these. Wire are too short to wrap around your neck. Pads are soft and comfortable. Build is good enough not to break during rem sessions.

I have 2 other pairs of head phone. Ad700 and ad700x. Both broke during sleep.

l have these headphones. They sound very, very close to the $400 dollar Seinheissers. I use these when gaming with Dolby Atmos.

I'm considering getting these, but I feel like it would be more of a "downgrade" instead of a sidegrade to complement my Hifiman Ananda's. Running these on a Schiit Lyr 3 multibit.

I love my Sennheisers and have been waiting to upgrade, but I'd rather buy a pair that don't require an amp. Are these a good choice, or is there another model I should be targeting?
Invest in an amp ( or really a DAC/amp stack or combo). The best "bad" analogy I can come up with is like wanting to get into auto racing but not wanting to invest in powerful engine/drive train. DAC/amps are available in all price ranges to suite all different budgets. It can be night and day difference between the headphones sounding dull/closed-in and lively/spacious when properly driven.

I got these as a daily driver for my WFH setup. I could toss them around without worry and I don't risk the HD800S from becoming play toy by my young kids. I am driving them with an OG 1st gen Lyr and iFi micro iDSD for DAC. At sub-$200 they sound a class above and are excellent values.

I own these along with an Audeze LCD 2C and HiFiMan Sundaras. They work great and are very comfy with large oval ear pads. Flat tuning with a slight treble roll off that adds a tiny bit of warmth but overall flat to my ears. Used with. Schiit Magni 3+, iFi Zen DAC v2, an old Marantz 2235 and an onkyo Tx-NR808 and they all power these well. I've also used them with a dragonfly red off an iPhone and gotta say while slightly less dynamics they still sound really really good. Easier to power than you'd think.
aside from possibly comfort, is there a good reason to even keep these headphones if you already have the lcd c and sundara which imo, outclass the hd6xx in enough ways to not even bother plugging in the hd6xx

The audiophile world probably has the most myths and misinformation circulating around the community that clueless people believe are true. No you do not need an amp or 'extra equipment'.
you don't NEED it, but it will greatly help it. the hd6xx isn't your typical easy to run headphone. it gets better with some juice. it's one thing that an hd6xx is loud enough to watch youtube videos or listen to music, but another to watch movies at theater qualities of detail

LOL, you do know HD6xx is not made for watching movies right? LOL

It was made specifically for music because for movies you need strong tight tight tight tight bass.

I already had Sundara, do you think 6xx is still worth buying?

It's never worth having more pairs of headphones, but it's nice to have.... 6xx is uniquely underwhelming but never outclassed for long term physical and listening comfort and quality. It'll lose out in 5 min comparisons, but it'll win a lot of 5 hour comparisons. I still use it more than anything else, and I have a lot "better" and "worse" headphones lying around.

Running Schiit Modius and thx789 balanced into the 6xx now.

not every movie is an action movie. you can definitely get away with watching movies without bass
