Dang.... Saw this too late. That 5Ds would have been a nice upgrade from my 5D Mark II. Sucks.

I'm in Sony land now, but one cat said the difference is only in the LP filter. I don't know either camera, though.

Just google "camera low pass filter or no low pass filter ".
Do the same with "anti-aliasing filter" substituted.
There's endless reading on the subject.

The one with the filter will help with Moiré, basically. All depends on what you want to do with the camera and how big you will be viewing/using the final image.
You're thinking of the 5DsR vs 5Ds, not the 5DsR vs 5DMk4 comparison.

How better is 5Ds R than 5D mark IV.
One isn't inherently better; they were designed to serve different niches. 5DMk4 has a much lower resolution, but is newer, and has better low light performance, faster continuous shooting speed, and better video recording options. The 5Ds has a much higher resolution, and handy 1.3 and 1.5 crop modes, but suffers in some regards due to its slightly older tech and larger file sizes.

Canon has staked their future high end cameras on the mirrorless R-system and, in particular, the RF lenses that take advantage of this new geometry. That doesn't make the old EF system any less good. It just makes it a legacy system incompatible with new lenses being developed. I have well over $10K invested in my EF system, and would probably represent the ideal market for one of these 5DSr refurbs, but even I would rather just hold off and get an R5 (or the new R1 whenever it arrives).
I have lots of EF lenses too and leaning towards 5dsr due to youtube reviews like this https://youtu.be/mXIzOrHzPIo.

If you dont mind me asking, are you planning on getting rid of your EF lenses or will be using R5/EF lenses with an adapter?

I'll be keeping my mid to long telephotos as the geometric advantages of the RF system don't really come into play there. My wide primes and medium to wide zooms, however, will go when I get an R body. I probably should have dumped all my wide L's and picked up an R body much sooner since the value of all the EF lenses on the used market has declined precipitously, but I'm hanging onto them until I make the switch. Oh well, just means some good used lens deals will be out there for those jumping on these 5DSr's.

Is refurbished good to buy? Is there any chance of issues in future?

I've bought 2 refurb bodies and a bunch of refurb L lenses from Canon, zero issues.

I own Mk2, Mk4 & sR. All are amazing camera. I use Mk2 long time then switch to Mk4. I saw deal last year bought sR. sR is not for everyone. Low pass filter will make picture more detail. But it have issue too. So canon don't put it on every camera. MK4 have a lot technology upgrade vs MK2. All my 3 5D picture quality all are amazing. The tone really close. If you keep one camera and you can pay more, MK4 is good idea. Second is 5Ds. $1K for full frame. It is very good deal. 5Ds is OOS now. But It will back stock soon. It is my experience on canon website. Also you can call in ask corporations discount. It don't work well on website. But they will give you same discount as CLS without S/N. BTW, I prefer use sR in studio. I can control the lighting to maximum the detail. Compare picture Mk4 and sR in prefer lighting. You will love 50 millions pixel and each pixel detail.

I've decided to pull trigger on 5dsr, I do mostly outdoor portraits, art and landscapes - what glass would you recommend if i would get one lens or at least to start with this camera? I understand that it would be hard to cover all areas with one lens may have to get at least 2, but wanted to ask anyway.

Based on my research, full frame Sigma Art prime lenses one of the best with 50 megapixels of 5dsr. Surprisingly, some complained online about Canon L lenses.

I have several of Sigma Art lenses and they are amazing with my Canon 6d. I usually take family pictures, portraits, etc and prefer Sigma Art 50mm f1.4. If I had to have only 1 lens for portraits and landscapes, I would most likely get Sigma Art 35mm f1.4.

I bought mine off craigslist. It was cheaper than ebay (plus no taxes) and less hassle in case if lens had issues. I have sigma art 24-70mm lens, I'm happy about. I'm not going to spend more for EF mount lens. If I had a budget for 2 EF lenses nowadays, one prime and zoom, I would consider 2 used lenses, 35mm f1.4 prime lens ($400-500), which is in the middle of 24-70 range and a cheap Canon EF 70-300mm lens.

Btw, it seems that the results of using 5dsr with/without a tripod/monopod vary drastically. I bought 2 old Manfrotto tripods ($40), made in Italy, on craigslist.

Good point for tripod with 5dsr, as far as ebay vs craigslist i feel that there a bit more recourse with ebay if something goes wrong with the lens, having said this i bought staff on craigslist with no issues at all
