All of this is a rehash of the OP, but I'll paraphrase for you:

it's all about personal preference. The other one is a 'laptop' chromebook. Most importantly it has a better processor. It has a larger SSD by 2x. That's the better one for my use case.

But, if someone wants the flexibility of a convertible / 2-in-1 to use it as a tablet / tent setup to watch movies, etc... Then this one would be great. Plus this one has Gorilla Glass. That's a huge plus.

Both are great units, but I personally would prefer the Costco setup for how I use Chromebooks in my lineup - a quick surfing device that sits near the couch/kitchen.

So the difference between this deal and the Costco one you posted earlier is only the SSD?
So isn't that one a better deal since it's offering 256GB of SSD for the same price?

We must be in similar areas as I am seeing the same open box options. Those are excellent prices for what you're getting.

Considering one for my father for Christmas. Originally was looking at the Flex 5, but its a Pentium vs. an i3.

You a very good salesman. Looking for a chromebook/laptop for my 11 year old daughter. I can get an excellent geek squad certified for $336 shipped or an excellent open box $313 shipped to me. I have never bought "open box" before. Can it be returned unopened by me if I change my mind? Would there be a restocking fee?
$300 is more my price range, that is why this one is tempting.
I need something she can use for school for 3 years. Then she will go to a school that uses iPads 100%.

Thank you. Any advantage to the certified or not for the $20 difference?
Both would need to be shipped as none are available near me. I read a few reviews that say do open box if you can see it in the store vs. shipped. Is shipping a deal breaker on this then?
If I open it to give it a once over when I get it, is there then a restocking fee?

Solid Chromebook. I've used this one and used it for sometime now. My recommendation is to go for an i5 even if it is $50 extra.

Wondering how to connect this to an external monitor. Says it has three USB ports, but can't find details on the third one.

You can even open it and use it, and as long as it's in the same condition you can return it in the return window. I love best buy open box. Usually great quality with full OEM warranty, but have had a few that weren't good. Easy returns for bad quality or even some other reason (one was that "speakers weren't strong enough" for example).

For that use case? This is perfect. Will likely last 5+years if you wanted.

Plus, you have ability to return by Jan 16 with no questions, no restocking fee. Assuming you don't materially damage it.

I'd suggest finding a Best Buy store with new units in stock, going and playing with the demo, then decide whether to buy the open box certified. Use most any credit card with an auto warranty extender and it will have a 2 year warranty.
