This is just my opinion based on my experience and personal needs, but over the last couple of years I bought 3 sets of these Philips Hue strips from the deals posted here on SD. I've got non of the light strips hooked up, and are shoved in some drawer. Again, based on my experience, while the connection and pairing to the Hub is fine, the time response is kinda sluggish, and if you're someone like me and don't have any of those smart dimmers/switches, then even the need of running and using the app in order to do anything becomes somewhat a chore (I realize that it's the first world problem). But this would not be a problem for majority as I assume, and the user experience would probably be vastly improved by the use of mentioned smart switches.
However, I have never gotten one of those, because I'm simply not impressed by these light strips. These get bright only when set to white color, any other color will not yield the same brightness. But my biggest gripe is the LEDs aren't addressable, a single light strip - a single color. Like in order to mimic the "scenes, color moods and ambiences" or whatever is referred by Phillips in their marketing ads and photos, you'd literally have to plaster your home with these light strips. Sure, Phillips will gladly sell you, and what I find is the better light strip, the Gradient Light strip, for your TV and at +$200.
At $50 for this set is about as high as I would have priced them. Philips which, myself included, is perceived by many as the go-to company when it comes to lighting solutions, however it does not offer anything exceptional in terms of the light performance. I do not own any other light strips, however I also own Nanoleaf panels which I sometimes find myself mesmerized by the richness of colors and light output. Not apples to apples comparison but I just wanted to throw it into the mix.
