We're living in the timeline where there is still no anamorphic DVD or Blu-ray releases of True Lies, The Abyss, and Strange Days, but we have Howard the Duck in 4K. Yep. Great timeline.
Howard the duck is sold out

Are DVDs still a thing? Do people still pop a dvd in the deck?
I don't know anyone who still uses DVDs. I know plenty of people who use blu-rays and 4K blu-rays, because disc has far better quality sound and picture, compared to digital.

Besides what has already been stated about sound & picture quality.
Some people want to actually own/posses a physical item and not just have rights to access it........with discs there no data allotment to worry about or the need for internet access

For rare/out of print type titles where there is no other option they are still a thing or for the folks who are technologically challenged. The only other value they have for me are as a cheap way to rack up Disney Movie Insider Points (picking up ones that are less than a dollar at Pawn Shops).
For Blu-Ray and 4K discs they are far superior to streaming in terms of audio quality and somewhat for picture quality. If you have even a halfway decent surround system it's well worth it to go disc.

Protection in wallet alone worth the entry fee

James Cameron hasn't even done Avatar in 4K yet. I don't want it, but it's crazy that it hasn't been upgraded.

Perhaps people want to feel nostalgic, I remember watching it and it took me back to my childhood.
