Adorama has VIOFO A119 V3 2560x1600 Dash Camera w/ or w/o GPS Module on sale below. Shipping is free for the GPS model, otherwise shipping is $4.95 for the non-GPS model.
The A119 V3 is equipped with Sony 5MP Starvis Sensor to record much brighter and clearer images with rich details even in a dark environment. It brings a super clear night version that other cameras might miss.
Equipped with a 7-element lens,f/1.6 aperture and 140° wide viewing angle, the A119 V3 captures more details with excellent image quality day and night.
I have had this same model for about two years and it has been rock Solid. I am actually contemplating to buy another one for the rear window as well.
Regarding the GPS, The camera and the GPS are separate units. You attach the GPS to the window and then the camera to the GPS unit. The power cable is plugged into to the GPS unit which in turn powers the Camera. If you want to disable the GPS, disconnect the power from GPS and connect it directly to the Camera.
Means you had a bad SD card. Dashcam alerts you when it starts recording.

Quick questions for those in the know: is this (version 3) now obsolete in 2021? Is the sensor still decent?
Another question: can you turn off the GPS module when you don't want to use it? I'd like to have it on sometimes, but not always…
Thank you

how's the viewing angle on this? also, are license plates easily legible or does the car have to be pretty close to you? i have an older Aukey cam that I've had for like 5 years, been super solid and still works, just thinking of maybe upgrading to higher resolution/image quality

Viewing angle is 140 degrees which I think helps in reading the license plates compared to wider viewing angle of some other cameras (160-170 degrees).

yeah mine is 170 degrees which is nice because it shows more but the license plates can be read when the car is pretty close to me but not when it's a little further
What's the gps for that add another $6? Does it use satellite GPS? I use Google direction on my phone a lot...but once for a while I forgot my phone so having a GPS would be nice.
The GPS records longitude/lattitude and speed. Not for directions to a location like google maps.
I have 2 of this VIOFO. I like it but after almost 2 yrs, 1 pushed its screen out because the battery swell and got fat.

this dashcam is equipped with a capacitor, not a battery. This is a big deal when the weather is very cold or very hot. Battery in my Cobra dashcam used to freeze up and give errors. It even ruined a few of my microSD cards. Now with VIOFO A119 V3's capacitor, I have had no problems in below freezing weather nor high temperature summer days. No errors anymore. microSD card loves this dashcam.
