This is so much better than any of the LaCrosse or Acurite stuff. Even if not on sale it's worth it if you're looking for a weather station.

Nice find OP and congrats on your 1st reps Smilie

Edit: this is the mount I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0...eva_mobile it's a "newer" model than the one I have. Mine was sub $15 when I bough it

Ours was no problem setting up and has no wifi disconects issues. The rain gage is spot on with a second different brand systems gage and both match the analog rain gage we have.

This one or the Costco(La Crosse 5 in 1 prof) one?
I bought the Costco one and I could not get it to connect to wifi and tried everything. Many other reviewers seemed to have the same issue. I ended up returning it without even putting it outside. That purchase was actually the final straw for La Crosse for me and I ended up going with this Ambient.

How is this better than LaCrosse or Acurite?
To start with it's more accurate. It should last you longer as well. It's the only weather station I never had any issues with at all.

I had a fancy Davis station back around 2005, before everybody had a weather app in their pocket. It was neat for a while, but eventually the wind cups disintegrated from a decade in the sun and the rain gauge would get filled with bird poop and spider webs and stop working. Anything you leave outside in the elements should be considered disposable.
As I said, I bought mine in 2007 and have been running it ever since. In 2012 I moved from MN to NM so my station has had the coldest and nearly hottest weather to deal with.

ALL rain catchers will have problems with poop and debris and need to be cleaned, which isn't specific to any one brand. The rain catcher is supposed to be just above ground height for easy cleaning. The nice thing about the Davis is you can mount each of the three main parts at the proper height. Rain/snow just above the ground, barometer/humidity/temp at 7' and wind at 33'.

My anemometer is fine after all those years. Maybe the 2007 model was made better than the 2005 model. I did replace the wind vane for a nominal cost as the bearing in it got sticky after about 10-12 years. The factory did a swap with me, old for new.

this was the first ambient weather station i purchased last year. though the display is not all that and can be hard to read. then i upgraded to the aw-2000 weather station with the much better display, although a bit more pricey, but well worth it.

the aw-2000 display has optional additional sensors like water leak detectors (up to 4) and air quality (inside/outside).

note that while the outside sensor array is universal with the 2 different displays, you can only have one outside sensor array in the general area. (unlike with acurite, you can have up to 3 outside sensor arrays, each on its own A, B, or C ID setting for display.)

The other thing that is neat with these is that you can easily automatically send your weather data to publicly available websites as well as access the data from others:

How do these do in sun?

Would I get much use in Phoenix?
My WS-2902C in FL is still going great after 1+ years. It has been holding up well to heat, humidity and winds.

Also impressed by the Ambient Mobile and web apps. For those technically inclined, there is also an Ambient Weather REST API [apiary.io], which allows you to pull your own data in real time.

There are also the following Facebook sites, filled with talented and enthusiastic users:
Ambient Weather Network User's Group [facebook.com]
Ambient Weather Network API [facebook.com]

Totally agree that this blows the Acurite/LaCrosse stations out of the water. Unlike the "cheaper" weather stations I've never lost signal with this even though my Ambient Weather installation is further away than my previous setups. My only quibble with this is that the display is a bit bright so if you leave the receiver in your bedroom be aware it can get to be a bit bright at night.

Got this for Christmas last year at what I believe was the same price point. Excellent unit. Zero issues. Battery life is superb thus far. Very accurate. Registered my device on Wunderground and downloaded the app.

I find the wall display to be fairly pointless in my situation. It's functional, but by no means pretty enough to set on a nice desk or mount on a wall and stroll by it daily. The app is mobile and provides way more information.

I bought this earlier this year. I have it set up in my backyard, but it really needs to be mounted on the roof. I just haven't grabbed the right mount for it yet and am dreading the letter from the HOA I know I would receive. The only issue I have is the wind speed sensor seems to read low. I should research and fix that (if possible) before I stick the thing up on the roof.

There are 2 brightness levels and the backlight can also be turned off as well.

If you have it on the roof it can be a chore to clean, replace batteries. Been there, done that. Mine is mounted off the back corner of the deck about 10ft off the ground now. Just took some antenna mast pipe, and conduit straps and attached to the side of the deck. I can get to it with a short step ladder now for maintenance.

More accurate readings, Better hardware, Hd Screen, able to hook up other sensors like soil moisture and lightning. Oh and the wind sensor has no moving parts. 5,000 is for a true weather person. I'm a true weather person but I'm fine with my $129 acurate I brought 4 years ago. If your looking to get just some basic readings like Temp, and rain this is fine. If you really want to be more accurate and are really into thing get the 5,000.
Thanks. I read a review on Bezos.com that one of the 5000's retained water (!?) and another failed after a few years and AW said that was the typical lifespan. As such, I'm more inclined to by the cheaper version if we're just going to have to replace it in 3-5 years.

I read a review that these fail after a few years, but I'm also seeing most of you comment on the longevity. Does anyone have any (negative) experience with the warranty?
