In short: $400 off on the phone. Port in a number to Metro, get A52 for $100 + tax + $60 first month service fee for unlimited plan.
Retail price $499, I don't see any major retailers offering discount without trade in/bill credit.
There is a separate promotion trade in a phone and get $25/month unlimited plan. Getting this promotion will likely change the phone discount. Once trade in agreement is signed, there is no way to cancel.
Phone automatically unlocks after 180 days. Active service not required. Only need to pay one month service fee. Go to a corporate store to avoid activation fee and other fees. Authorized dealer tends to have many hidden fees, such as insurance, phone case. In store experience is highly YMMV, stores make up their own rules.

- 128GB memory (expandable up to 1TB)

I came home, called customer service right away, and told the lady my two encounters with Metro corporate store, and asked her to confirm the statements by the rep at the store. She was shocked and apologized for the bad experience at the store. She told me adding line should actually save me money. Then she checked and merged my two lines to my primary account, reducing monthly for the second line from $60 to $60, instantly saving me $30 per month. She was also able to remove insurance which I didn't ask for at the store, crediting to my account.
Lesson learned - if corporate stores extort money from you with upsells + higher/more expensive plans, fraudulent statement, call customer service to verify and they can fix things in your favor. Even better, if you could call right from the store, so the store reps can't lie to you.

Where do you see the trade-in discount? I just see the $60 plan requirement in the fine print.

Not a terrible price, but not spectacular either. What would be the cheapest way to get a number to port to them? Does the number have to be active on the phone you are trading in?

$165 for a $500 phone is quite good given no impressive phone deals this year. The only down side is locked for 180 days.

$165 is a decent deal if this phone was unlocked if you didn't have to jump through hoops to get the deal, but most people here on SD wouldn't consider this to be a $500 phone considering you can get the new unlocked Google Pixel 6 8GB/128GB for $550.

Current deal on unlocked pixel 6 is only $50 off. No store/carrier will hand out phones with $400 discount without strings attached.
Yes, A52 worth more than $100 over A32..
