Leetcode itself is already free. I think paying for Premium just unlocks more questions, more articles, and lot more resources in the "Explore" section where you can deep dive into individual topics. Honestly if you are super frugal then the only thing you will need anyways is the "Discuss" tab and reading and understanding other peoples' solutions and explanations.

Besides Leetcode, there are many competititor sites like HackerRank, CodeChef, TopCoder, etc. I think TopCoder is where the real competitive programmers go to; their tournaments are insanely hard compared to Leetcode's weekly contests. But for the vast majority of people, they just use Leetcode to study and prep for SWE interviews, which Leetcode is great at. The question repository is very large, the IDE is clean and unobtrusive, and it usually simplifies a lot of boilerplate code that you would otherwise have to write (e.g. imports, test framework, etc.) and you can immediately jump to solving the question at hand.

But Leetcode is geared toward practicing these DS & algo questions. If you're just looking for an online IDE, then there are plenty of sites that already do that like jsfiddle, replit, etc.

If you are serious in preparing, you dont need to pay. Participate in their weekly challenge, earn coins and then use that for buying subscription. 5000 coins = 1 month. If you are paying, there are tons of free content already from leetcode which can be used first.

I wish leetcode wasn't a thing. None of my years of experience matters if i cant invert a binary tree. It's a messed up system. Anyways good deal if you really want to do the grind and get in to faang.

If you're just looking for the Grokking series of courses, Design Gurus is running a 20% off deal for Black Friday on their site:
https://slickdeals.net/f/15432238-design-gurus-20-off-grokking-courses-bundles

This could be a better deal than Educative if you just want specific courses or bundles like Grokking the (Advanced) System Design or their Coding Interview Patterns courses. You get lifetime access instead of paying the subscription model of Educative.

But your previous subscription would end earlier, is that worth the $30 difference?
It was for me since it was due to expire Nov. 29 of this year. I took advantage of the deal last year as well. I do see your point though for others with different expiration dates.

There are companies and teams out there that will focus more on domain specific skills during interviews. I've seen some where they ask you to do technical presentations to talk through a challenging project and code, or do pair programming exercises with a team member solving problems you will actual face in a day-to-day. They are out there but sadly tends to be more exceptions than the norm.

How are the Grokking courses? Do you think they are worth the investment on top of LC premium?

How do you feel about OMSCS?

I'm taking accredited classes at my uni to show the admissions committee that I can take, and perform well in, CS courses. Already finished GRE as well and the score is sufficient for GA Tech.
GA tech doesn't need GRE or GMaT

is this the same as the one on educative? I am confused why they offer a lifetime sub here and not on educative io?

I prefer my current $9/hr job that's going to be replaced by a robot within 3 years for sure.

$250/hr? How these jobs exist, why wouldn't you just retire after 3 years.
You then want a investment property, then vacation home, then a house with a private golf course. It's never ending.
Living simple isn't that simple.

I've only gone through part of the "Grokking the Coding Interview: Patterns for Coding Questions" course on Educative.io. I found their explanations lacking and their test cases not as thorough as similar questions on LC. The more recent LC premium solution explanations are very thorough and helped me a lot in understanding different solutions.

I'd imagine Grokking's Dynamic Programming course is similarly lacking, though I haven't looked at it. There's probably enough resources for learning DP in LC's discussion forum and Youtube.

As for system design, which appears in mid-level+ interviews, LC doesn't cover it so you'll want an outside source: System Design Primer, Grokking, Youtube, etc. I've heard mixed reviews of their system design courses, but if you don't have any experience it's probably fine to start learning there.
