For $50 more, you can get swift 3 with 512GB SSD, and a better display 300 nits and 100%sRGB. Slim and Lightweight.

However, swift 3 have soldered RAM so can't upgrade.

Would this be acceptable for a kid who wants to play steam games, Roblox, and maybe something like Fortnite?

This is 14" many do not want the 15" with the small keyboard. This is upgradable as well though 12GB is most likely enough for almost everyone. I have 16GB but never seen it use more than 9 GB.

yes, I understand some may prefer the smaller size. however, Acer has a significantly larger screen bezel than Lenovo. So the actual laptop size difference is not big. Also, depending on how you use it, 8GB ram may not be enough, at least that's the case for me.

To me that looks exactly like the swift3. Normally the aspire is cheaper quality but here it doesnt look like it. I do like the dual channel ram, no matter what people say 8gb is totally fine for everything unless u play games or video edit. High nits displays are only useful for outdoor, and who does that?? But viewing angle and good quality ips/led is important.

I really think this site overblows the importance of RAM. I've used plenty of basic 256gb ssd 8gb i5 windows laptops and never encountered a ram issue during normal use. I think it stems from people forcing these machines to do more than intended.

The importance of upgradeable RAM is a plus point moving forward in future when/if you need more RAM, you could upgrade by adding a stick.

I have the Dell Inspiron 5410, which has similar specs, also at $450: https://deals.dell.com/en-us/productdetail/bieh

Yes the Dell has a Core i3, but it's a 1125G4, which (like the 1135G7) has 4 cores 8 threads and performs basically identically: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...3995vs3830. The main difference is that the i5 has more iGPU execution units, but this will only really matter for gaming (and neither is suited to serious gaming).

The Dell's USB-C supports power and data, which is a significant advantage over the Acer's data-only port. The Dell definitely has a backlit keyboard; neither the Walmart nor Acer website says anything about that for this Aspire, so my guess is it does not have it.

The Dell also has 2 RAM slots, and the 8GB takes up one slot. This means no single-channel RAM until you add another stick, but you don't need to waste anything to add more RAM, as you would on the Acer.

I have the Dell, and its build quality is outstanding for the price - aluminum lid and keyboard deck, very nice keyboard and touchpad. It runs a little warm but very quietly. It also has a slightly larger battery (54 WHr) - in my use battery life has been great.

Bought this 2 days back but planning to return unopened after seeing all the broken hinge complaints against Lenovo laptops.
