I helped a couple friends get the 10th gen Intel version of this laptop. That model turned out to be pretty good. They're happy with the laptop. The only downside…. If this model is anything like last years model. The webcam is not 720p. It's like 240 or 480p but it's very grainy and pixelated. Just imagine a camera from a flip phone from 15 years ago and you have the webcam quality. I could be wrong maybe this years Acer 5 has a decent webcam, but it was really the only real major thing wrong with it outside of the soldered memory. It had good keyboard and trackpad and the screen was fine, don't expect to do color accurate photography with it but remember it's a cheap laptop.

I picked up a refurbished gateway gwtn141-10 which has 16 gb ram and 512 hard drive for $329. They come in and out of stock at Walmart. For the cost it is not bad. Seems brand new. Touchpad didn't work in windows 10 but that seems to be a driver issue because it worked in kubuntu Linux 22.04. I wouldn't buy this for daily school or work use but for a second laptop it is pretty good for the price.

I'd go with this one. I'm returning my gateway refurb for it. The gateway is nice, but the keyboard bottoms out and requires a fair amount of force to engage. Very painful to type on for long periods. Also, this one has a less storage but supports NVMe, so faster I/O. Wish it had usb-c charging though. For what it's worth, I would've kept the gateway if the keyboard was better.

This should be a concern. All 1-star reviews have the same issue. The laptop starts crashing after 1 to 3 months.

thanks for posting this OP great deal Smilie .. I do have a concern though that may or may not be legit hopefully wiser heads than mine can weigh in on this Smilie

I know traditionally you want to have both RAM sticks ideally exactly the same, same manufacturer, same speed, everything... did some research and came across one post where someone complains say adding a 16 GB ram stick to the 4 GB ram soldered on (and therefore not removable or upgradable) can result in a performance hit (on the other hand the post seems to indicate if you're not using it for gaming you should be fine)

I actually own this exact laptop, bought it from the store in Austin. It's a great solid looking thing of beauty. Nothing cheap looking compare to others I've own previously. I just ordered another one, this price is $130 less than what I paid.

This is far better. HDMI 2.0 for example and generally ASUS is higher end. You can replace the 4GB with an 8GB stick for 12GB which is generally enough. It will mostly still do dual channels.

This is a very good laptop. Not really for gaming but great for school work.
