Why not just buy this and trade in to Best Buy for the 13 mini? Upgrading from 12 to 13 costs about $80 (assuming you're not in CA where the tax is much higher) so you're looking at paying under $400 for a new iPhone 13. You could even upgrade to a higher end 13 for a few more $. The BBY deal is probably one of the best ones this year if you have an iPhone 12:

Edit: best buy doesn't care if the phone is locked.

I have Total Wireless, and plan to keep the device for 12 months anyway. Note that the referral program is generous, and you can essentially go the first 5 months for a total cost of $50 for the service using the referral codes ($25 each of the first 2 months, and the next 3 come free with the code ... this if you don't use much data, or 4 months if using more data) (you can add as you need) ... and it's Verizon towers ...

Been looking to move to total wireless...fam of 4 currently on cricket. Only 2 of us need new phones. What's the best/cheapest way to get us moved to the $100 plan? Seems like we have to add plans for each new phone? want to be prepared in the event these actually come back in stock.
The best way to do this is to start with 1 line using someone's code to get 8000 points available in 60 days, then start with line 2 using your own referral (5000 points) or someone's code (8000 points), when it is renew time, change one acct to 4 lines plan, then move the rest to this acct. TW does not refund or retroactive, if you combine before month is over, you lose the 1st month payment.

Thanks. Def want to max out both months. Just renewed cricket so I think timing is good to shop for phones and then hold until we are ready to port each line. Might even just bite on the XR deal. if I move my line first I can deal with a lower data/cheaper plan until ready to change. if I'm primary, pulling my line from cricket won't mess up the rest will it?

Out Of Stock on both straight talk and Total Wireless options. Wonder if they'll refill inventory.

So Best Buy shows that you can trade an iphone 12 mini in for a $430 gift card. So wouldn't that be an automatic profit of over $100 if you buy this phone and trade it in to Best Buy, without even trading it in for an iphone 13? Best Buy doesn't care if they're locked, right? Am I missing something here?

This is what I want to do. I picked up an iPhone 12 mini from my store this morning...only issue might be selecting the carrier - they only have the major carriers - TM, Sprint, Verizon, ATT - that you can select when trading in.

Are you going to go to Best Buy today to trade it in? Let us know what happens. Since it's not being traded in to a particular carrier, I don't see why it would matter to BB what network its for?

For BB tradeIn , I remember I read it from best buy thread that someone picked Verizon for prepaid phone and everything went well excepted that got 200 dollars charge back on his credit card few week later from Best Buy due to the phone carrier did not match what he chose Verizon for straight talk or something . Make sure you searched it before doing it!
Why would you give them a credit card to trade in? Just hand over the phone and get the gift card.

This morning I bought two of theses from my local walmart. Once I got out to my car I went on Tmobile and Verizons compatibility checker and the IMEI seems to be unlocked from what I can tell. I have not tried activating on a different carrier yet. The phone comes in a standard apple box with an envelope taped to the front that says straight talk and total wireles.
Same for me. Checking IMEI on TM, Verizon shows no issues. I even chatted with a Verizon rep who saw nothing about it being locked on their end. However, when I inserted an old Verizon postpaid SIM, it gave the "SIM is incompatible message".

I actually want to trade it in for an iphone 13, but having to switch carriers only to switch back out again seems like a lot of trouble.
I want to trade mine in and get a gc to buy a TV...I'm just concerned that down the road they could back-charge me because whatever carrier I select will be incorrect. I could just say that I don't know the carrier and see what they do...

In the trade-in terms and conditions it states:

"3. Accuracy of Information. You agree that all information you provide about the Item for trade-in, as well as information you have or will provide about yourself, is true, accurate, and complete."

any kind of business always have some risk, acutally BB did take TW/ST iphone trade in at store. one SDER reported back he/she forgot to take out TW sim card so the bb rep ask to confirm. went through seamlessly

The iphone mini 12 is also available directly from the Total Wireless (and Straight Talk) website at $299. If you click through from TCB, then you can get $31.50 back, and if you have a cc that bonuses telecom spend (like an Ink Cash or Plus) then you can probably get extra points there.
