For people coming to this deal to say that the Washington Post is biased, do you think that because you only read newspapers for their opinion pages? I don't see how you can say the news reporting is biased--facts are neutral. Perhaps you don't like the topics that get reported on, but they are still facts (as in, they actually happen in reality) and not biased.

I have subscriptions to the Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times and I think the reporting by all three are excellent and some of the best in the country. I don't read their opinion pages. I encourage you to give their reporting a read, and perhaps you'll find something interesting. It's best to learn more about the facts, then form your own opinions rather than regurgitating someone else's opinions.

And by the way, this is the best deal I've seen for an annual subscription to a major newspaper. Definitely worth it to see if you find the reporting interesting.

I just tried and I think this worked. I got two years of a premium subscription at the $9.99 rate. Am I reading this wrong?

Due on November 23, 2022
Rate - $9.99 (plus applicable sales tax)

I NEVER read the Washington Post Opinion pieces, but their Fact-based journalism is still top-notch IMO.
I'm really glad they make the distinction and am happy to provide at least a little support to one of the few remaining institutions that at least attempt to make a distinction between fact-based reporting and opinion pieces.

I already bought this last year, almost to the day ... my sub was set to "auto-renew" for $100. I went to cancel (to buy this to replace it), and it gave me a $9.99 renewal rate to keep me from cancelling. I feel guilty taking it (it's worth $100 or more, in my book), but I can't *not* accept it.

There may have been a period of objective fact based reporting, but not anymore.

It all comes down to money. They will write what sells. If washington post has trouble getting people to sign up for $10 a year, who the hell is going to fund the journalists, editors, etc... Truth of the matter is today people want to be entertained. No one is going to read something that just states the facts.

Article:
Fed raises interest rates by .5% in 2022. But we want to know the context and ramifications behind the move. It could be seen as good or bad depending on your stance, and according to you they should just report the facts only. But most people are just simply too stupid to understand news or do not have the time to analyze everything by themselves if its not served on a silver platter to them and they are told what to take from it. If FOX news started saying tomorrow that gun control is good and offered reasons, I'm sure some of their base would eventually come around to the idea.

If a liberal media source said eating bananas cause cancer, I'm sure some people would also start repeating that same information.

You can go read AP for news.
The news has ALWAYS been biased, sometimes worse than others, but it's never been truly objective, and can't be. And even if it was, people who didn't like it would find ways to challenge its objectivity. But, some outlets are more diligent about at least trying to be as objective as possible. Like, saying that X happened when it almost certainly did happen, and not saying that Y happened when it almost certainly did not. But that's relatively easy. What's hard is then describing X in great detail while remaining truthful objective. Even harder is explaining why X happened. That's also where you lose a lot of people who don't like that explanation, even if it's based on hard and verifiable facts. I mean, to get outside my intentionally non-topical remarks, there are still many people who dispute evolution or the age of the earth and universe, not at the margins or on specifics but in their totality. In a world in which such undeniable facts are disputed, you're bound to get massive disputes on news reporting, where the facts are not nearly as clear-cut because due to their very nature it's very hard to report on them with complete and accurate information.

Ya good point.

Can this be added to Apple News as a subscription source?

Yes it can. The WP app is also very robust.

I canceled and agreed to the extra year. They didn't charge me immediately the $10 for the 2nd year. Is that correct?

Yes, they didn't immediately charge me either for the 2nd year. Basically just locking the 9.99 price for the next renewal.

It never was. Ads paid for the bulk of it in printed newspapers. People still paid for the paperboys to deliver them or sell them on the street, but that was not much of a moneymaker; mostly cost-recovery.

My current subscription (basic, not premium) ends April 2022. I paid $29 for one year, so I have about $10 of that left.

If I cancel now (which if I try, it offers me $9.99 per year starting 04/22) will I get $10 back, then I can sign up for $9.99 and threaten to cancel again and get 2nd year for $9.99?

Excellent deal. I has to call and actually argue with the rep a little to get them to add this at the end of my current subscription.
