For people coming to this deal to say that the Washington Post is biased, do you think that because you only read newspapers for their opinion pages? I don't see how you can say the news reporting is biased--facts are neutral. Perhaps you don't like the topics that get reported on, but they are still facts (as in, they actually happen in reality) and not biased.

I have subscriptions to the Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times and I think the reporting by all three are excellent and some of the best in the country. I don't read their opinion pages. I encourage you to give their reporting a read, and perhaps you'll find something interesting. It's best to learn more about the facts, then form your own opinions rather than regurgitating someone else's opinions.

And by the way, this is the best deal I've seen for an annual subscription to a major newspaper. Definitely worth it to see if you find the reporting interesting.

You can get the $9.99 rate for a second year if you cancel today and put the reason "promotion ended"

I just tried and I think this worked. I got two years of a premium subscription at the $9.99 rate. Am I reading this wrong?

Due on November 23, 2022
Rate - $9.99 (plus applicable sales tax)

I NEVER read the Washington Post Opinion pieces, but their Fact-based journalism is still top-notch IMO.
I'm really glad they make the distinction and am happy to provide at least a little support to one of the few remaining institutions that at least attempt to make a distinction between fact-based reporting and opinion pieces.

Thank you for this. Exactly what I experienced. Very smooth.

LA Times had $1 for 6 months not long ago. That was about what it is worth to me. I sure would not pay any more for the WP.

Edit: Still there.

My current subscription (basic, not premium) ends April 2022. I paid $29 for one year, so I have about $10 of that left.

If I cancel now (which if I try, it offers me $9.99 per year starting 04/22) will I get $10 back, then I can sign up for $9.99 and threaten to cancel again and get 2nd year for $9.99?

Choose Promotion ended as the reason for cancellation

You'll get the option to change your renewal rate to the $9.99 and keep your subscription active. Do that.

Or, fight with WaPo to try to get some $ back from your current subscription rate if that's what suits you. I chose not to. Extending for another year at $10 is good enough for me.

As i have explained to a friend, no news media is completely neutral, because in the end, the humans who write and edit the stories all have a bias, whether or not that bias is conscious. Even word choices can unintentionally infer an opinion.

If you want to avoid bias as much as possible, then avoid all pieces which are clearly labeled as "opinion", which reputable news sites do specifically label.

I was also on the $1 a month plan w/ 7 months left on it. If you cancel your $1/mo plan it'll ask you if you'd stay under the new promo. So basically, at your next renewal you'd get it for $9.99 for 1 yr.

I ultimately decided to cancel and resubscribe under a new email and using the new promo, because 2 yrs/$20 is always better than 1 yr/$10
Ah, great! Thanks!

Ok I asked to cancel my just-renewed $10/yr subscription and they offered me a 2nd year also at $10/yr, but they said that I won't be charged until 11/23/22. So I went for it. Who knows where we'll all be 2 years from now what will all these developments. We might not want to read the news by then.u

Yup. That's why I signed up. My sub expired last month, and I wasn't quite ready to pay the $40/year promo offer they sent me.

$20 for 2 years is a no-brainer for me.

I hate to break it to you, but Facts Matter is a propaganda and conspiracy theory channel run by a far-right Chinese cult called Falun Gong. No matter what your political persuasion, you probably literally couldn't pick a more biased source of news.

The people who criticize the Washington Post are the same ones who believe that Fox News is "fair and balanced" and that NewsMax leans very slightly to the right.

Plus, as much as I like bargains, I also like to support good journalism at least a little bit.

Probably, but I try not to think about it. I'm still getting over the stolen election of 1876.
