I had this and ended up returning it because at the time was looking for a very powerful small impact and this couldn't remove my lugs (maybe with the bigger battery but not with stock). I also didn't like the weight of it but I do think it would be perfect for working on car parts like valve covers and other hard to reach areas etc. I went with the green and black 400 torque makita which is slightly bigger than this and actually love makita parts now.

The reason why is because the 1/2" sockets will generally apply more torque with heavier 1/2" sockets. In addition, the 1/2" sockets go up in range higher than the 3/8". For example, most 3/8" impact socket sets go from 8mm to 19mm. Generally small fasteners don't need high torque to remove and I would be hesitant to use high torque on them anyways. The 1/2" socket sets give you more flexibility since covers a wider range of socket sizes going up in size... they even down to 8mm if you want.

Disagree. I've broken many fasteners over 21mm. This M12 is more capable than a lot of 18 volt variants. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it is on par with the M18 impact wrench minus the mid or high torque.

The socket sizes of 3/8" and 1/2" isn't too far off. It is slightly wider and sometimes slightly taller but you're talking about a few mm here. In general, if you can't get into a tight spot with the stubby, it is not the socket that is the issue, it is the entire tool.

See my response above. For those that haven't purchased a impact socket set, I would advise to go with 1/2" since you have a wider range of sockets to use. But if someone only has 3/8" socket set, then sure...go with the 3/8" to save some money.

Also remember, extensions and u-joints rob the torque applied to the fasteners dramatically. As for your current 1/2" impact being too big, I don't think that applies here. The 3/8" and 1/2" are both the same tool size. The difference is in the range of sockets. Most socket sets only go up to 19mm in 3/8" and then you will have to piece meal any sizes that you need higher than that. The 1/2" sets generally go up to 32mm but also goes down to as low as 11mm. The sockets that come in the 1/2" is more in the working range of a impact.
