I have the 2.0 version... For those who question if its worth it. Imagin a Man and a kid going insane with happiness by hunting flys around the house. Yep. Got flys or bugs in your house, you will fall in LOVE. Some of you might actually enhance your bugasalt by adding lasers and other accessories to it. YES, they make laser sights and stuff for it. lol..

Anyway, It is worth every penny. Thats why I just snagged this one at only 35 bucks. One for my house, and the other for my gf's house!

The official Bug-A-Salt Ebay store [ebay.com] has box-damaged ones for around this price year round. E.g., Currently the 2.5 version is available for $32.95.

I also agree. It reminds me of people finding joy and pride in things like hunting.

It isn't glorious to kill a defenseless animal at 300 yards with a high powered rifle whilst draped in $2k worth of military grade camo. Then they take pictures and souvenirs to reminisce on the experience. It isn't heroic, it's disturbing...finding joy in unnecessarily killing animals and wanting to remember it makes them look like serial killers.
your ancestors must be proud of you mr salad hunter. sorry you are vegan.

Gen 1 owner here, used it a couple of time then stopped using it because 1) it have low kill/damage rate, 2) the salt particles everywhere situation is not fun to clear up. The new versions supposedly much improved now but not sure as it is too pricey to try. I find my Bernzomatic torch do the job much better.

These are junk. I own one and salt comes out maybe one out of three shots. Just a novelty item.

Most fun you'll ever have shooting flys and spiders. Will kill a lizard with a bunch of headshots.

What do vegetarians do to get rid of flies, insects? I'm intrigued since the comments actually "bug" you.

Anyone try this with stinkbugs? I'll get infestations of about a hundred at certain points of the year. I use a vacuum to suck them up, but this may be pretty fun to use.

Animal cruelty? Seriously? If you don't kill any type of living creatures, then obviously this thread or threads involving products used to kill bugs is not for you, just move on instead of trying to instill a guilty conscience into people owning this product. If you're going to kill a fly with a bug swatter or bug spray or via electricution, this is no difference. Sure it may sting the disease-germ-carrying fly and not kill it right away but who really enjoys torturing it? If it's still alive just shoot again or use a paper towel, pick it up and squash it to make sure it doesn't "suffer". My goodness, this is a gross disease-germ carrying annoyance but you're worried about animal cruelty. 🙄

Wow so much comment! I have the 2.0 version. Won it in a white elephant game at work. I brought a squatty potty... Anyway, works as advertised. Need to be less than a foot away though. Table salt is pretty useless. You need Diamond Crystal Kosher salt or any salt with larger crystals. Powerful enough to leave a mark on a aluminum baking pan.
It may not kill your bug but it will shock it long enough for you to squash it. Loading is actually quite difficult. Not very ergo. Don't mess around with it as it will definitely damage your eye. Would I buy another if mine broke? No.
