I always look in slickdeal to pick different brains. Please post your thoughts if it is a good deal to buy. I am planning to use this during emergencies like power cut or during travel
At this price point, It's a modified sine wave unit. It's good for heating elements but not so great for sensitive electronics. A pure sine unit is much more desirable.
So this hooks up directly to car batt and not via the 12v DC port (cigarette lighter)? What type of scenerio would you be using for with what type of devices? Seems not as convenient as 12v DC port inverters so it can all be inside the car cabin.

Not for Fridge,tv, ac . Emergency for powering router/modem, laptop, mobiles.

With 1000w continous 2000 surge why could you not plug in your fridge and leave car running? worse case fuse blows? and everything defrosts
As teaberry said it would drain up your car battery quickly if car is switched off. May be max 1kwh you would get with this with car off. Yea but if we keep car running what you said is possible.

If it worked, I guess you could turn your car off and unplug it for six or so hours while asleep and the fridge would stay cold.

Because many cars alternators do little charging, below around 1500 rpm. And so your car battery can die while it's idling. To make headway on getting your fridge/freezer cold again, would take a few hours once it hits 20-25 degrees - the point where damage is starting to happen if only to quality, not safety of the food. You could baby-sit things and do a slight amount of good, but this is entirely an inadequate solution. A 5-6 amp draw for a typical fridge, plus conversion inefficiencies, means a couple hours of cooling, and a dead and possibly damaged battery particularly if it wasn't already in top shape. Lead acid batteries provide extreme current for a few seconds very well, and are poor at sustained low amperage draws. The chemistry and physics says this is a sucky way to do it.
