When is a thread too old to reply?

58 231 September 5, 2009 at 08:32 PM in Chat
I noticed that this fourm is very active and that the threads get buried very quickly.
I was wondering how old the last post of a thread needs to be before you would
not consider replying to it?
Also wondering about the other fourms on SD like hot deals.
When is the latest time from the last post in a thread would you consider replying to?

I thought they were my beloved devil's food Twinkies only to have my dreams crushed when I saw they were chocolate cake Twinkies.

The answer is never, because threads don't speak.

Never - but whether I reply or not after a given time depends on the thread.

If someone posts on a car forum with problem X, gets no answer for 3 years and then I come upon the thread, I might reply. The OP surely solved their problem by then or stopped caring. However, the next guy who comes upon the thread may still looking for an answer (as that's how he came upon that thread in the first place).

If someone posts a new story about how some guy got his d**k stuck in the pool drain (this happened), I would just read it, think "wtf" and move on without replying.

I'd imagine timely advice is best in that situation.

Well . . . you see . . . there was this incredible amount of suction, and the idea just popped into his head. That's when things got out of control.

Actually, there's a video of a lifeguard on YT that got stuck in a pool drain. He survived. Pools no longer have drains like that.
