That seems pretty low for a modern day laptop right? Other deals have battery life of 8-12 hours.

Dell's Inspiron is their mass consumer line. In other words, it is their most basic laptops. Don't expect high quality.
Yeah good point. I've had inspirons in the past, they're plastic, not the greatest, just curious how the quality of this one is I guess. I mean we're only using it around the house for average stuff. But just the daily moving around and opening/closing takes its toll on cheaper builds.
You will need something with a dedicated graphics card like Nvidia 3059 ti
Dell gaming laptop is probably a better bet for you otherwise the number crunching you need for screen refreshes will take forever if at all
Check the software system requirements and remember that's the minimum
I used to distribute CAD software so a graphics card is a must as with laptops you can't add them later
