This was by far the best router we ever had. Hardly ever drops, great connection, debatably better range than higher end models, I have tried a few and nothing came close to it.
Flashing them is half the fun...

omg, you were able to flash the firmware? After I selected the 1703 firmware and click upload, bottom left corner of the browser will show 0%, then the page eventually turn out to be 'this site cannot be reached'. Over 20+ attempts, welp!~
Thank you for your reply!
The first downgrade step to the 1703 T-Mobile firmware is specifically where I'm getting stuck exactly as you describe here. In your follow up comment, you said " I actually found out it's already downgraded but the browser just won't display on the browser and instead it just simply display the site cannot be reached. Anyway I already followed thru the guide and have flashed the router to the newest Asus firmware! "
How did you finish out the rest of the guide if the next step is to access a router admin page that won't load?

Did you try restart the router? If that doesn't work, try hold WPS+Wi-Fi and reset at the same time before powering up the device, once power LED indicator flashes in a fast pace release the WPS and Wi-Fi buttons but still hold the reset button. Release reset button as soon as the ping gets response from 192.168.29.1 and that requires you to open a cmd console and type in 'ping 192.168.29.1 -t' before you power up and force the router into recovery mode. It's a nightmare to flash the router the first time, good luck!

For posterity in case it helps someone else out: It turned out to be either some combination of the timeout settings with Edge as the browser or me not being patient enough to wait for the router to fully boot up, but I ultimately got it to work with Firefox and waiting for the router to fully boot such that the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz leds were lit every time a reboot was required which definitely takes some time (and even for the first time before pressing and holding reset). Too used to the responsiveness of my AX3000, but looking forwarding to trying these as AI mesh nodes.

No problem, the downgrade does take a few minutes and the browser will not refresh the page to tell you that the downgrade is successful, the only way to tell is when the router reboots itself and with Wi-Fi lights on. It's better to use chrome or Firefox over the slow Edge browser.
Successfully converted mine to Merlin firmware, using the BayAreaPros instructions. The interface looks fantastic!
Got a couple of times into the fast Power blinking situation - was tough to recover from. Reset button push was very flaky, but managed to recover in both situations trying either Reset several times, or WPS NVRAM clear.
I recall Asus RT-N12 flashing was also flaky, asus button pushes seems to work somewhat inconsistently.
Yes, Select 1.0.2.0 US AiMesh If you are flashing multiple routers, do not use the same original_cfe.bin. Each router original_cfe.bin contains the WiFi and other identifiers for that router.
Is the CFE conversion site (pipeline.sh) working? The download link there is grayed out for me. Apparently I flashed mine with the non-AiMesh version when I did it some months ago, now I can't get the AiMesh file.
I followed the steps at https://www.bayareatechpros.com/ac1900-to-ac68u and did the flash and stopped at the end of that part (step 24) a few weeks ago, and kept using my old router. Now I want to do the last part: Code for fixing MTD5 partition so you can update to latest firmware:
(this is entered in Putty after enabling SSH on the router)
I connected to 192.168.1.1 though the browser and enabled SSH in the router.
I couldn't connect to router through putty (connection timed out) so figured I need to make the IP static again.
Made IP static for Local Area Connection (laptop hardwired to router), using 192.168.1.1 IP and 192.168.1.5 gateway
After making IP static, now I can't connect to router through browser either (using 192.168.29.1). And of course Putty still doesn't connect either.
Any idea what's going on?
