Just got an email from Microsoft inviting me to buy the XBox X available in limited quantities on Microsoft Online Store.
You have to bundle a game and a controller and it all came out to $720.
I was able to buy one for the delivery date of 12/22

No definitive answer. I believe I got the email because I made a purchase in the past from the Microsoft Store (and somehow opted in to receving their promotional emails).

Although I'm willing to bet they'll arrive before that date, I wouldn't hold my breath on before Christmas however. I have the same estimate.
I received a follow up email a day after my request after the initial confirmation email that has zero info in it. Not sure what to make of it. Body reads
"Thanks for contacting Microsoft Support for Xbox about returning physical products purchased.
Please read the instructions on how to return your items bought from Microsoft for exchange and refund to learn next steps. "

I have had 2 Series X Xboxes already and will sell my second one soon. Glad I didn't get rid of my Xbox One X yet. That plays cod just fine with no problems. The new one was getting worse at times and it is a known problem they are just not showing it as a bug or update on fixing it so I am going to go back and wait. Some people will never have the problem but some playing online shooter games might figure it out sooner or later. I tried older controllers and newer ones and all were having latency problems most of the time.That is just not acceptable with such an expensive console. Good luck!

Just by a day. My initial was 12/1, but I ordered the 20th. So based on our dates they seem to be about 10 days from order to receive on the first batch.
Let me know how that goes. I can't find away of talking to anyone to do that return. Is it the same steps at the digital game return? Probably the worst support I've ever seen.
