Btw, I saw 4TB ones for 68.99 in B&H and thought maybe I over paid for these in Newegg. I compared the two and turns out model are different. B&H one is WD40EFRX with 64MB Cache and Newegg one is WD40EFZX with 128MB Cache. I paid $76.99 with $8 coupon. Don't know about you, but $8 more for 64MB more cache sounds not so bad at all.
Dang, I've just cancelled a pick-up order with BestBuy, for the 4 TB WD Red Plus (WD40EFRX), the one with only 64 MB cache and possibly being a lottery in terms of manufacturing date (which may be as old as 2014). Which was priced higher by $10 with tax included.
And then I wished to proceed with the WD40EZRX order through Western Digital's online shopping website. But now it shows "Availability: 2-3 weeks" !??? What gives!? Is such ETA to be trusted, or a fluke in their "demand estimation system". I don't want to wait for another month to get it.
Also, what do you folks think about Western Digital's own shipping service? Are the drives well package and no surprises with boxes getting damaged i.e. due to negligent shippers, lack of a "fragile" label affixed, etc?
Also, is the one sold thru WD's own shopping site the full retail package, and featuring 3 year warranty?

Thank you.
i think WD website is busted. it took me several dozen refreshes and qty adjustments riddled with various server error pages before i was able to place the order
Anyone know where I can get a 6TB Red Plus - NOT on sale?
I need one to replace a failed drive in my RAID array - just failed normally I can get one next day, and of course now I can't Never needed a cold spare before...
I couldn't believe it. No bubble wrap around the drives. No boxes. No partitions. Just laid in the box. Well one of the drives failed SMART so I called WD and told them I don't trust any of the drives and that I wanted all 3 replaced. He said they were overwhelmed by the amount of orders they received over BF and CM. Now I see they're out of stock so no idea how long this will take. Can't believe they sent me drives packaged like that. Like someone said to me, it's sad when people on Ebay can package better than WD.
The said thing is right after I ordered them the Best Buy right near me put them on sale for the same price. I wanted to cancel and just buy them local but it was already in process and couldn't be cancelled.

You can mix and match drives IN the same raid array too. Just the array will be limited by the smallest/slowest drive in it.
But software raid doesn't care if the drives are different unlike the old hardware raid cards.
These will work, but the WD purple drives are designed for surveillance use.
