DWS779 is on sale with free stand and Lowes. Didn't see this advertised anywhere but online it says free gift and when you add to cart the miter saw stand is added. Saw is on sale elsewhere for $399 by itself but seem like a good deal with stand. It's been cheaper in the past but haven't seen many deals this year.

Update - for those who may only need the saw, Home Depot says they will have it for $299. This is what a customer service rep told me when I asked if they would price match Lowes, which at least this rep wouldn't do.

Bought this last year on BF - what a great saw! I recommend doing the laser light upgrade:

Just throwing this out there... bought this same deal last year for $379... and it made me leave Dewalt for good.

I had owned a DWS779 for many years, and it was an amazing SCMS. And last year when I seen the sale, I jumped on it.

Little did I know how much Dewalt had cheapened the saw from the 779 of the past. Many of the aspects that made it a "DWS780 Without the Light" were gone. So many things that made it great...

(Copy/paste to save time)
1. Saw now only cuts 13.75" wide not 16" as advertised (huge change)
2. Kerf plate is no longer split and cannot be adjusted
3. They removed a few bevel stops.
4. There is no more slide lock lever.
5. The motor itself bogs down quickly compared to the older versions. This is straining the motor, and in turn, shortening it's life span.

They took a once amazing saw that was the best value in SCMS, and turned it into a Yellow Craftsman Sliding Compound Miter Saw.

So be forewarned... this will be more of a DWS778.9. And it is not a very good deal at this price, for this saw.

Look into the Makita and Bosch. I love the Bosch now, and find it better than the DWS780. (I only with the Newer Cordless Bosch had the option of being battery powered, and corded. I'd have bought that one instead if it came with both options.)
This will get down voted but I have TWO of these as well as a comparable Metabo (I run a woodshop) and I would use the Metabo over my 779s every time. I have DeWalt everything in the shop but the 779s are underwhelming IMO.

The 779 is awesome. You can buy an aftermarket shadow line and install one. It cost me about $80 and came with the dewalt parts. The only thing I don't like is the stand in this deal. The gravity stands a lot better.

Thanks for the link to the kit. Do you think it's really worth the $80 if you already have thr saw?

Definitely - I had a laser on it and the shadow kit is much better

Can this be hacked? Can I return the stand for $$? I want the saw but really don't need the stand.

I'm actually curious about this. I jumped on this but it really is criminal all the shortcuts they took. A 32 tooth blade on this? What a joke. I want to return for the 780 but want to keep the stand

Agreed on the laser, I PM'd last year and got it for $325. Best SD I ever got.
Just FYI - the upgrade is not a laser (this model has a laser), the upgrade is a bright light just above the saw blade that casts a focused shadow on the cutting surface. It is very accurate because it uses the actual blade to cast the shadow. A laser, on the other hand, is only as accurate as the manufacturer can mount and aim it from the side of the unit, there will always be some amount of inaccuracy because it cannot be mounted exactly parallel to the blade.

DW715 12 in. Single-Bevel Compound Miter Saw
vs
DWS779 sliding compound miter saw

It's like a $150 cheaper saw. Home Depot has several more "deals" with cheaper saws or cheaper version of the stand.
