Have no problems w/ stability (did you snap it together as indicated and put the cord through the opening so the base does not rest on the cord?), remote works well and noise level is no more than that of other fans (esp. as you say, when running on level 4 - never had to use that around here to stay cool, but tried it and it was way more than needed. Noise on L3 is comparable to Honeywell fans on III.)
Yes, it can be a tad loud, but it depends what your ambient noise level is. Never had to use it on 4 here, but it is very stable when put together correctly.
Remote can be a bit of thing, but being unable to move a lot the first few days post-op, it was a godsend.
For the price, it's at least as good at the Vornado knock off Honeywell fans, and it actually rotates. (Yes, it beeps when you change things, but around here that's preferred over no noise upon changing things...
To each their own. Buy and if you don't like, return...

The best feature of this fan is the 3 wind modes. It has sleep-breeze mode (which has an ultra quiet setting, which I use for sleeping), a natural breeze (which also has an ultra quiet setting), and standard breeze. The air put out definitely varies quite a bit with each mode. I love it.
I personally think it was worth it at $35, definitely worth it for $20.
Doesn't power on with remote or button on unit. I took the plastic battery tab out of the remote. I didn't see any other "remove to operate" type things. Assembled the base and put the fan on it.
Is it DOA?
