Got this a few months ago when it was that exact same price on Amazon. Have a ranch 3500 sq ft house and works well here. Wife has had no asthma attack since getting this. Yes it is a bit of an over kill but worth it for some. It's very intuitive and it does come on when you burn some thing like toast it'll come on strong for a few moments and it does actually clean up the air.

Worked well this summer when we had fires. Have not had to change the charcoal filter yet but I've had to clean the small filter on front they just wash have Vacuum the front of the charcoal filter that make a little bit dusty
- No activated carbon
- No prefilter (so expect to change the filters more often)
- No sensor to control fan speed.
- No scheduling/night mode/etc.
- CADR of around 100 for a DIY box fan Vs. 300-400 here.
- Lower noise.
- You cannot build what you're talking about for $50 anyway.
Self-contradictory. Also, very wrong. Activated Carbon neutralizes harmful chemicals (e.g. ozone, hydrocarbons, VOCs, etc) via capture in the same way a HEPA filter removes harmful particulate via capture. The two target different airborne contaminates in a very complementary way.

You're addressing an argument nobody made. I did say that DIY box fans are NOISY and you cannot schedule it to turn off like you can these (e.g. at night).

Said the person repeating a marketing claim about a filter's "life." A washable pre-filter is free bonus filtration that costs nothing and is capturing particulate that would otherwise wind up in the HEPA filter fabric. Why would "marketing" be working hard to make sure I give them less money by using a washable filter in front of a HEPA filter?

Also, the furnace filters aren't bigger. These devices have filter material on four sides, rather than one side like a DIY box fan. There's more filter surface area here.

Nope. Fan type, fin design, and motor play a major role in determining noise (particularly at lower speeds).

If you don't know what you're talking about then maybe you shouldn't be giving out bad advice?

Filters are supposed to last a year and cost about $40 to replace?

Got this last time from Amazon for $350+tax. Works great. Amazon one doesn't have wifi but don't need it so $25 savings is perfectly fine with me. Filter is excellent at detecting and filtering odor.

Does this work (well) with multiple rooms and floors? Or is it mostly just for one big open area?
