It depends on your needs and what you like better. They are very similar. Plex is tried and true and emby is up and coming. I've had great experiences with Emby and chose to continue with their services. I'd compare and contrast the differences to see what's right for you. There are many articles online that compare these two services.

Yea... they may code but their business decisions are somewhat... lets leave it at that.
I chose Emby because it is much more flexible. I have several friends with disabilities, and so the fact that Emby is much more willing to accept plug-ins was definitely of interest. While there is still no plug-in for descriptive audio (for my blind friends), multiple options for closed captioning allowed me to find the one that worked best.

You can also hook up iptv providers into the epg and be able to muck around with it using a virtual tv provider where you can get your own custom channels created.
There is a free variant called jellyfin that I'd probably use if I haven't already paid for emby 7 years ago. I don't know if that one gets free epg data or what but where I exist that's what it's always boiled down to - needing to pay someone for the epg data...
