Wow, what a deal!

I've been hemming and hawing whether to get the Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus, the Lenovo 10e or the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 4gb version.

The only thing that originally stopped me with the Lenovo 10e was the terribly bad speakers. But at this price point, I'll deal with it. I have plenty of other devices around the house (including other PCs, tablets, phones and bluetooth speakers) if I wish to play something at a loud volume.

Here is my brief analysis should this help anyone in the same boat.

* The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is 8.4" and arguably is easier to handle than the 10" Fire HD 10 and Lenovo 10e. But the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite uses a crappy 1340x800 resolution with poor viewing angles. Buyer beware that the A7 Lite does have a 3GB RAM variant as well.

* Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus (the 4GB RAM variant) was really, really tempting especially considering one can use Fire Toolbox to remove the ads & bloatware, sideload Google Play Store, and sideload a custom launcher.

* BUT Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus uses Android 9 as the underlying OS (already out of date considering Android 12 just came out). Not to mention Amazon is releasing a new (currently optional) OS update to version 7.3.3.2 that prevents Fire Toolbox from being able to do its thing. Not sure how I feel about being forever stuck on a previous version of an already outdated OS.

* I've read that the Lenovo 10e's ChromeOS is a bit hit-or-miss compared to Android (especially with app compatibility) but we shall see. I don't really do much on my current tablets besides catching up on news, perusing Reddit & Slickdeals and occasionally watching a show or TV on it.

As much as a good deal it is, id rather go with the Amazon Fire HD Plus, just based on the added storage option, especially with the firebox tool to 'unlock' it.

P11 plus is better deal for 170 with employee discount
$79 vs $170... not quite the apples to apples.

It is. But I don't want to get stuck with no support or updates

If using this tablet with a keyboard is important, then consider the Asus 11.6" Chromebook for $99 at Best Buy. The keyboard will be noticably larger and more comfortable to type on.

Lower resolution and probably TN screen, so there is a tradeoff.

Does this have the same dimension as the Fire 10+ ? I was wondering if the Fire10 Fintio keyboard case will work with this.
No, fire is bigger (and just a tad thinner)

Why is this a chromebook tablet and not android tablet? What is the difference?

In Chromebook, you access everything you want through browser (which is chrome for this). If you want to watch Netflix, you type netflix.com in the browser address bar and watch. If you want to watch news (pick fox or cnn as your preference might be Smilie )You type in again in the address bar and watch/read. Most of them do come with a physical keyboard though this 10e is exception and hence it's easy for you to type all this.

On the other hand, Android/ios is meant for mobile device, which does not come with a physical keyboard. Though you have a browser, it would be difficult to type in the address in the bar; so the companies provided apps that would be specific to NetFlix, Bank of America etc. The workflow is controlled by the application in the manner relevant for the particular app.

Now the mobile device was small they came up with bigger version = tablet. The Android/ios interface carried over to that form factor

In the meantime, they added android support to chromebook for those who are familiar and interested in apps rather than use it through a browser

Now this chromebook is a smaller version of chromebook in tablet form factor.

Since this is a tablet, most are expecting to use it as an android device!

Personally, I am more comfortable to do everything through browser. For e.g I can open multiple related tabs and switch between them if I have to do some comparison or reference. Android app do not offer that option.

If you are a first time Chrome OS user, i suggest you go for a full Chromebook laptop. You will not a get a full Chrome OS experience if you dont use a keyboard and mouse with this. We have been using Chrome OS for 2 years now. A lot of first time Chrome OS users are confused as to what Chrome OS. There will be a learning curve because it is a different OS.

Not really useful for moving apps to SD like Android. Then you might as well get a 64GB Fire Tablet.
pug_sterIMO, Lenovo is just selling off these tablets in order to get rid of inventory. These tablets is just as useless as the cheap $100 windows tablets that is collecting dust in my house right now. I use chromebooks BECAUSE it has a keyboard, otherwise I would just buy an firehd tablet 10. The keyboard that you can buy with this is just not that good and I can't use it on my lap. If they have a laptop version of this for $20 more then I would be all over this but this is not a deal.
I have Fire 10+, and wait for the day I lose the google app store. 32 gigs is not worth wondering when Dr Evil will finally lock down side loading. I have a NICE Acer Chromebook (not the $100 BF trash). Each form factor has it's place. Taking it out and checking email in a Uber, playing an Android game or watching a video in bed is not idea with a full sized Chromebook. This is NOT a cheaply made device. It looks at home next to my ThinkPad

For those concerned about storage, Google Drive is 1.99 a month for 100GB. You can share that 100GB with family and friends. Google drive is cross platform so iOS, Android, Windows, MacOs users can access/use it at well.

Storage issues are regarding apps. You can easily fill the remaining storage with a handful of apps. You can't rely on the web if you're offline.

Oh Jesus, this is ridiculous! If you're wanting to use this for web browsing and video streaming, this is without a doubt the best value tablet out there. It doesn't come with any junkware and you can download from both Chrome store and Google Android store. I got this for my mom, and it's really snappy compared to her old ass Samsung A whatever Android tablet. If you're on the fence about it, just buy it.
