Wow, what a deal!

I've been hemming and hawing whether to get the Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus, the Lenovo 10e or the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 4gb version.

The only thing that originally stopped me with the Lenovo 10e was the terribly bad speakers. But at this price point, I'll deal with it. I have plenty of other devices around the house (including other PCs, tablets, phones and bluetooth speakers) if I wish to play something at a loud volume.

Here is my brief analysis should this help anyone in the same boat.

* The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is 8.4" and arguably is easier to handle than the 10" Fire HD 10 and Lenovo 10e. But the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite uses a crappy 1340x800 resolution with poor viewing angles. Buyer beware that the A7 Lite does have a 3GB RAM variant as well.

* Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus (the 4GB RAM variant) was really, really tempting especially considering one can use Fire Toolbox to remove the ads & bloatware, sideload Google Play Store, and sideload a custom launcher.

* BUT Kindle Fire HD 10 Plus uses Android 9 as the underlying OS (already out of date considering Android 12 just came out). Not to mention Amazon is releasing a new (currently optional) OS update to version 7.3.3.2 that prevents Fire Toolbox from being able to do its thing. Not sure how I feel about being forever stuck on a previous version of an already outdated OS.

* I've read that the Lenovo 10e's ChromeOS is a bit hit-or-miss compared to Android (especially with app compatibility) but we shall see. I don't really do much on my current tablets besides catching up on news, perusing Reddit & Slickdeals and occasionally watching a show or TV on it.

As much as a good deal it is, id rather go with the Amazon Fire HD Plus, just based on the added storage option, especially with the firebox tool to 'unlock' it.

I remember that there was some mention about a Lenovo android tablet that can also work as an external monitor? I'm assuming that it's not this one?
I'd be interested in this

Will this work in india? Is this useful for my non tech savvy dad who will use it for browsing, youtube mainly ?
Yes Akka, this is not network restricted in any way. But getting warranty support in India would be a problem. I don't suppose they have international warranty. That said, this is decent for simple simple tasks such as light web-browsing, youtube etc.

People wants updates till 2028 but no one considering slow processor here. With latest technology and future chrome os updates this ll going to get slower and slower. Pass for me
Android apps will probably slow down, but ChromeOS is so resource-light that it should be fine for browsing until then. My 2012 low-end Chromebook was fine for browsing 7 years later, although it stopped getting updates a bit before that.

Am I going to see any useful upgrade from a Lenovo 500e (1st gen)? Can't tell if the CPU is any better or worse.

500e has an Intel Celeron 3450U.

FireOS - just asking for none stop battle with Amazon to use Fire tablet in ok way. Yes, you may apply some hacks till the next FireOS update or let it be without update and on old OS.
While on plain chrome OS you don't fight constantly, but update directly.
Yes, I have older Fire 10", that I hacked to get Google play store, but I wasn't able to use Southwest video in flight, that required plan unrooted tablet ...
I hope with this Chromebook to not have such issues ... Time will tell

great find like the others are saying thanks OP Smilie

At this price it's hard to complain Smilie .. but one thing to bear in mind.. there's a possibility google play may not work on the chromebook (which kind of sucks since it means you can't download apps from google play ) see

Great find OP.

I have to admit I'm very tempted to get this even through the processor is so slow. Don't I already have enough gadgets? :/

What is a chromebook good for? Purely surfing web + youtube?

(Serious question)
There are plenty of uses - I use it to to work with my clients on Outlook, video conf, whiteboard, etc. My kids use it in their school profile for school work. Everyone uses it for some form of entertainment like gaming or watching movies.

Does anyone have experience with the keyboard folio? Can you adjust the angle at all? Is it rigid enough to use on your lap?

From the different threads on the Lenovo 10e Chromebook tablet, the only downsides to this tablet are no microSD slot, 32 GB of storage, and weak speakers. Everything else is great and it's fast on ChromeOS.

I got a price-match of $79 from ordering on the Lenovo website for $99 yesterday, so you can get that if needed. I also got the keyboard/folio case for $27.99. Check also for Lenovo Rewards; I had some from ordering a laptop and they expire in 6 months. PSA: do not try to cancel an order with Lenovo Rewards; they don't get refunded to your account.

As for the discussion between this and Fire HD 10 Plus, I would 100% choose the Lenovo 10e. My Fire HD 10 updated to version 7.3.2.2 which XDA Fire Toolbox can't handle, and I can't sideload Google Play store where all of my paid apps are. I also thought I'd be OK with the ads on the lockscreen, but I'm not. The Fire HD 10 is therefore lackluster for me, and I don't want to deal with the eventuality that a FireOS update will stop Google Play from working. FireOS doesn't seem that great either. I'm returning the Fire HD 10 Plus I received 2 days ago.

Fine for lap, no angle adjustment. Keyboard is a Lenovo, so awesome for what it is. Full sized keys too
