That article is old (2013) and now completely wrong. Intel created a lot of market confusion when, as of 2013, they launched Celeron-branded Atom CPUs. G-series branded Celerons were still i-series cores, whereas J-series and N-series Celerons were Atom cores. They later expanded their branding confusion to include Pentium-branded Atom CPUs as well. Intel only very recently either improved (or worsened) the situation by distinguishing their Pentium Silver (Atom cores) from their Pentium Gold (i-series cores).

Good luck!

This isn't an insane price, but this indeed checks every box for the standard Chromebook specifications I personally recommend. Unfortunately for many shopping in the early pandemic they were grabbing weaker MediaTek CPU models at this price. Here the key value you're getting includes:

Intel Atom CPU
Good horsepower for a Chromebook
Touch screen
Best for optimal support/functionality with Android apps
1080p
Well-matched to content consumption resolution

As a bonus, this is a 15.6" screen, which typically carries a premium in the Chromebook space. Here, you're almost getting it for free! Personally this isn't enough to get me to jump, but I already own three (3) Chromebooks right now. I'm waiting for the slightly newer Jasper lake CPU models to get closer to this $200 price point.

However, if you bought a Chromebook early for the kids to do online school, and have been loathing the experience, compare and consider this model!

At 80 yrs old, the keys are getting hard to see. I need a backlit keyboard.

Well written but just a minor nitpick. Celeron and Atom are not the same. https://smallbusiness.chron.com/d...66941.html

I'm using this Chromebook right now and it's great. I keep it permanently on my kitchen table, where a desktop takes up too much space (desktop in the home office). Nice large screen. Easy to put away when I need the space. Too big as a mobile device. I got it for $200 (after coupon) from Target last month.

I too bought this from Target last month. My first Chromebook. Love it. Long battery life. Much faster than my aged Windows laptop. I seldom use the touchscreen because the touch pad does so much. I haven't even used a mouse with it. I'm right-handed, but it's easy to switch to my left with the pad. No more wrist pain either. Great for web browsing.

The specs seem to be different in that deal. That one uses the older N4000 processor and only comes with 32 GB whereas the one in this deal uses the N4020 processor and has 64 GB of memory.

Slightly different on that one. The microcenter one only has 32 GB eMMC while this one has 64 GB. Also the microcenter one isn't touchscreen (from what I can tell at least...don't see it mentioned anywhere nor on the Acer page itself).

EDIT: Ahhhhh, I missed the part where you acknowledged the storage difference.

How does this compare to this one at Costco? I am trying to find one with larger screen, so 14 inch is ok. is the larger drive of 128 gb better? I don't need a touchscreen. It is $199. https://www.costco.com/asus-14%22...07283.html

It's actually an N4020 even though it's listed as an N4000 since I bought both the target one and this one from Walmart. The only difference is more storage (+32GB) and a carry case.

Aren't the arm-based CPUs better for compatibility. I really wished I pulled the trigger on that Lenovo chromebook.

how many nits is the screen? I placed an order, was looking for the acer i5 for 380 but maybe this one will be sufficient. Running an old dell 7310 chromebook that still works great, but am interested in the touch feature and hopefully even faster performance. The lenovo chromebook for $150 was ok, but lagged and going to return it. Hoping the lack of backlit keyboard wont be a deal killer.

I bought that Lenovo Duet deal expecting I could install the Linux version of Brave browser, only to realize it only supports x86. The Intel CPU's may be slow and less efficient than arm, but they have better compatibility for Linux packages.
