I ordered the 8" version for $80 but it's still on backorder and there's no word on expected ship date. Pretty tempted by this deal.
This is a good entry level sub to consider if space and/or asthetics is your main concern. If not, a Klipsch or JBL on sale in this range would be a slightly better option sound-wise.

Can you be more specific? I'm building out a HT but am far from an audiophile. I am pretty sure $1000+ subs are overkill for me, so I'm looking for bang for my buck. Have been considering the Dayton Audio…

The Dayton with a similar form factor? Yeah, I narrowed it down to that and this (last year). Bought this one and it's good for my purposes - music at my desk. Could position so that the controls are at my fingertips - no remote.
TLDR: I can recommend this one, but for home theater, I'd probably get the Dayton especially if price is same.

It sounds like we're about on the same level of audio knowledge so here's my take- I had a 10" Klipsch that I really liked until it gave out. I wound up getting their 12" model and did not really like the sound. It sounded too muddled. I did a little research and found that stuffing the port with a towel would help and it made a big difference. It still booms but sounds much better when listening to music. Long story short- 12" is great for movies because it'll rumble your seats but not so great for music(the towel in the port solves that tho. Think sealed sub vs ported sub). 10" is great for music and good for movies but probably won't rumble your seats. 10" is a very good starting point tho. Just my $.02. 🤷🏽

Good speakers and subs require space, which means empty air effectively in the box. (cue someone trying to defend bose). Generally subs have a bit more space than this one which is in a spacesaving box. This one is likely not going to hit as hard, but fits in tighter / out of the way locations. The internal volume of an enclosure is treated as an equivalent air spring which pushes the cone back out... The smaller the volume, the less hard 'hit' on the sub on the rebound. Assuming a sealed enclosure...
this box looks to be downward ported (hole in the bottom).which potentially allows for jamming speakers into smaller boxes with similar results of a larger enclosure.

(see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_reflex) When speakers are designed for home use or for high-volume live performance settings (e.g., with bass amplifier speaker cabinets and PA system speakers and subwoofers), manufacturers often consider the advantages of porting (increased bass response, lower bass response, improved efficiency) to outweigh the disadvantages (port noise, resonance problems). The design is popular among consumers and manufacturers (speakers cabinets can be smaller and lighter, for more or less equivalent performance) but the increase in bass output requires close matching of driver, the enclosure, and port. Poorly matched reflex designs can have unfortunate characteristics or drawbacks, sometimes making them unsuitable for settings requiring high accuracy and neutrality of sound,

The short version is that smaller boxes will probably produce a bit of a flatter, less boomy bass. But, if you don't want to take up many square feet of your living room floorspace with a huge sub enclosure, and aren't going to try to shake your walls apart, this will add a nice bass range to your system and you can hide it much better than the "small ottoman" size of most subs.

Thanks, canceled my back ordered 8" and got one of these instead. Looks like shortly after the price increased to $229 so might be dead now.
