In general, I won't buy a non-Chromebook PC with less than 16 GB of RAM. I notice that, for the new Macbooks, the minimum amount of RAM is 16 GB. I hope that the specifications of the next iteration of the Mac Mini follow suit, as I firmly believe that (especially in this day and age), the minimum amount of RAM required for a consumer-grade PC is 16 GB. People multi-task and open multiple tabs, and it is not consumer-friendly to have to manage memory like a hawk.
That is just my 2 cents, but I am hoping that is where the PC industry is headed, as OEM builds tend to charge a lot more for upgrades beyond the base model.

The current m1 version is already so powerful that there is no need for the next gen one with m1 pro & max for 90% of people. Tho If you really don't need the mac mini immediately you could wait to see what other new stuff the next mac mini has and decide from there.

Yes, but it will wear down the SSD faster. How much sooner it will fail is anyones guess

Apple is smart, they design these to fails outside the 3 years max warranty probably.
Its integrated memory in the package that has CPU, GPU and Memory as a MCM module, not SODIMM like others do.
And more advanced users are being asked to pay more to fund the next gen design.
Thats clever marketing - somewhat like tesla model 3 was funded by all model S owners.

Only time i had an issue with 8GB was while rendering with FCPX. You need at least 16 gb to make moderate edits. But for advanced stuff it can surely use 32 GB.
Having said that, if you do programming / coding or general business tasks, this machine will easily serve you well for a long time. If you need a new computer today, this is a great buy.

Cheapest way with Apple now is probably replacing the base versions each 24-36 months, after waiting for sales. Assuming you don't compile whole apps frequently or edit lots of video files.
You could get the base mini and a macbook air for like $1350 instead of nearly $2000 recently. Not that many people would need both. You'd could probably get close to all but $600 back if you sold both 3 years later. That's about the same depreciation as a single mid range PC laptop would experience.
