The batteries run out every couple of months on this (check reviews). It's works well other than this. Battery drain appears to be driven by a very inefficient wifi radio that keeps connecting and disconnecting despite a very strong signal.
Does this version solve some of the previous issues?
- Disconnects from Connect often even when it' within 2 to 3 ft of each other
- Takes forever for app to connect while approaching door
- Takes sometimes up to 5 minutes for geo location to trigger unlocking
- Tapping the "unlock" or "lock" color often results in a phantom click that requires you to have to do it a second time.
- Might be isolated to me but some of my guests can no longer use their august app on their iPhones.
- App appears to rarely get updated or improved
- Sometimes the no jam feature does not work requiring me to have to re-calibrate the device so my daughter doesn't destroy the door casing.
- Cannot get remote to unlocking to work reliably to let people in
- Often difficult to get connect to respond to setting changes sometimes
- Wifi to Bluetooth swapping is slow
The only thing i can rely on is the scheduling works like a charm and the auto-lock helps keep the door locked as people come and go so I never have to think about it.
I have a very blanketed WiFi area for the device and it shows a strong connection in the signal readings. It's been like this since day one. 0 issues have ever been fixed. I've seen others report some of these and nothing has ever been done to fix anything.
I don't think I can take a chance on this deal given the endless hassle this lock has given me. I'd suggest to others to steer clear for something else that is more reliable.
Are the batteries you're buying made out of diamonds? Because I buy a 12pack on Amazon and it's about 22.00. I've never heard of 10.00 a pair in my life.

Yo spending $180 for all the hassles? I would spend $80 for something like this Door Lock Smart Lock 6-in-1Keyless Entry Door Lock with Remote Temporary Password,Biometric Fingerprint and Keypad,Smart Door Lock Front Door,External Lock Waterproof,Deadbolt Locks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09JWRV...UTF8&psc=1
I'm already hesitant to buy any "smart home" products, even from established brands. I like that the August lock retains whatever internals, as well as external on the outside part of the door, of your original lock (I use all Schlage at home where actual keyed locking is concerned). As far as physical security, that's fine in my book. Even with that, I place the lock (as well as all my IoT stuff) on a separate VLAN(s).
I personally would steer far from random locks such as the one linked, not only from a cybersecurity perspective, but also from a physical security perspective. Every single one of those "features" / unlocking methods are just another potential vulnerable point of entry waiting to happen.

Good luck with this lock if you have Pixel phone. I didn't know it when I bought it and the lock is going back now. Apparently it's a known issue with no fix in sight - suggestion from August support was to use another phone to set the lock up.
I've set the lock up at some point with a Pixel 4 (wife's phone), Pixel 4 XL (my phone, but being repaired), and a Pixel 3 (my backup phone). What's the problem you're having? Most recently, I recalibrated with the Pixel 3. A few months ago, I did a full factory reset and setup with my Pixel 4 XL when I screwed up the keypad setup and ended up between registration into my account and not being linked (I accidentally killed the app during setup because I got impatient). But now I'm going off topic and this had nothing to do with using Pixel phones.
Although I should add that this was indeed one annoying aspect of the keypad I failed to mention before - if this happens, you MUST call August support to get a master factory reset combo for the keypad, based upon the serial number I'm assuming (for good security reasons I might add). When you're setting up the keypad, be patient and let the setup finish, or you may end up with the app being unable to link the keypad to your account until you call them to get a factory reset combo!
A few things I didn't mention in my previous post:
- I tweaked the deadbolt's positioning in my door to be absolutely perfectly lined up. This is necessary with ANY smart lock! Otherwise, it'll at the very least drain the battery very quickly (if it barely locks / has a lot of extra resistance in order to fully go into the locked position), or at the worst not work at all / jam up / whatever. Even without "smart" lock products, this is something I would do anyway.
- I have quite a robust network at home. Router and AP's are Ubiquiti, with separate AP's on each floor, and my network is further segmented by VLANs as well (for security and performance). With that said, I never have a problem with connectivity of the lock, and a set of fresh batteries tend to last 2-3 months. I would say the lock auto-locks anywhere from 10-20 times a day. Mostly because of a 2 year old toddler who loves to twist the lock back and forth over and over, lol, and often leaves it in the unlocked position.
- I've been a network and systems admin for about 10 years (explaining why my home network is overkill), and just recently decided to finally go back to school to finish up my bachelor's degree to broaden my horizons. Not that the degree means anything (in my opinion, relative to real world experience), but my degree was in Computer and Network Security (i.e. Cybersecurity) with a concentration in Digital Forensics. Stay away from unknown security products people, especially those that are literally the keys to your physical kingdom. Yes, there are plenty of breaches, vulnerabilities, general stupidity found even in established products (thus why I segregate them to begin with), but I even further wouldn't take the risk with random "smart" home security products - even more so where there are multiple points of (physical) entry that may have been poorly implemented (NFC, FP, etc).

People on reddit have tried it and it seems to immediately report a low battery notification and it will continue to report a low battery notification every day. People have disabled notifications from the app, and then wait till it sounds slow. Obviously not ideal. August doesn't recommend it of course: https://support.august.com/false-...-H1FtTAF2N
Gotcha. I've never had much issue with batteries lasting with my 3rd gen. I think you need to make sure to to re-calibrate after swapping batteries though or you get weird issues with the door sense feature not working or the lock not locking properly.
Right. 3rd gen is BT only. I would get around 4 months on that model. This latest model gets much longer, - but only using BT only (though still going via HomeKit for remote access).
I bought these from Amazon and had worked great for months. After a while it starting to have WiFi connectivity issues. Sometimes losing up to 24 hours and getting warning notice even though the my primary mesh wifi router is about 15 feet away. Bluetooth is always great and works but at times due to wifi connectivity I am not able to unlock the door remotely. Then end up having to open the garage remotely instead.
Not as good, but if you need multiple and already used up this code, best buy is including a $25 e gift card for a net $164 for one lock if you are for sure going to spend another $25 at best buy in the future anyway. This deal is only for the next 2 1/2 hours.
Amazing that NO ONE since Sesame has made one of these compatible with surface-mount deadbolts, which has a potential market of, say, almost the entire population of New York City. Capitalism, please?
