As for alternatives, I'd like to know which desktop financial product that has the option of keeping data locally you are talking about? Andrew Tobias's Manage Your Money went away in the early 1990s. Or maybe you are talking about Microsoft Money. Or ..
"I just noticed when I started the deluxe software that it includes a Quicken Starter edition (sells for about $30). Last year they promoted the bundle but no mention on the Amazon website. After starting the program for the first time it gives you the option to initiate the Quicken program. My current program goes through March so last year I didn't execute the Quicken option until right before my subscription expired. It took a bit of fiddling last year as it was then for NEW SUBSCRIBERS ONLY. The screen in this year's Turbotax doesn't have that caveat but states that this is valid only for people that have purchased and downloaded from Amazon."
