Saw this earlier and tried to refrain but couldn't resist. In for two MGL combos lol. For some reason I couldn't get payments to go through via PayPal so had to forfeit the 5% cb through that unfortunately.

Thanks! I have been looking at the Shimano SLX DC combos and couldn't resist buying 2 at that price. Got the 10% newsletter discount and free shipping.

1) American Legacy is a great shop -> bought multiple rods/reels from them in the past. 2) Love the SLX line. I have the SLXMGL70HG/SLXCX610M combo that I use with finesse stuff - love it. Casts a dream. Have a SLX DC as well and while it is a great reel, I was not as impressed with it as I hoped. For whatever reason I have more issue throwing the DC than the MGL despite throwing finesse stuff on the MGL. I am relatively new (last 12mo) to baitcasters so that is part of the issue...

Awesome! I've been watching for a DC deal, so I couldn't pass this one up.

I ended up getting 2 151HG with a 610M and a 7MH. I am still new to baitcasting, and honestly, more technical fishing in general... Is that enough difference to be noticeable in most circumstances? The 610M for more finesse and the 7MH for top water? Or not… I'll be in a kayak usually, so I didn't want to go above 7.

Excellent deal on the DCs for sure. I would have gotten more if I didn't already have one haha

Thanks for the fishing post, I would have to know these rods and reels better to pull the trigger but it seems others are finding value so thanks again OP.

For $300-400 a pop, there's no reviews and not very much information on the rods and reels themselves.

The SLX line is probably one of if not the most widely known casting setups. They are great workhorse reels and are Shimano; there are thousands upon thousands of reviews for them on Youtube/Google etc. ALF is also a very reputable retailer, they pop up on here a lot and I have only had good experiences with their customer service and shipping. They also have a brick-and-mortar shop in Evansville, IN.

I'm new to baitcasting as well, but I went with the 7' Medium glass (SLXC70MG) and the 7'2" Med-Heavy (SLXCX72MH). The 7MH will be a solid all-around option at any fishing depth. The 2 inch difference between the rods won't be noticeable as much, but, if anything you'll see that the casting distance is a bit further with the 7'. The difference that you will probably see more is in the power and action. A medium power with an extra fast action will be more sensitive to bites, but you'll have an easier time pulling in a bigger fish with the medium-heavy setup. Your shorter rod (610M) should give you more precision to land where you want. That one will be good user for jerkbaits; fishing where you can fish with the rod pointed downwards.
Hope this info helps, but I'm no pro... just my opinions from my research Smilie
