Just got back with one of these and tried it out. Surprisingly good! There is definitely some bloom, but nothing too distracting. Even credits etc look fine, and letterbox bars are truly black. I find those to be the most important reason to have full array dimming, as I can't stand when the letterbox bars get brighter and darker on TVs that try to shift the whole backlight.

There seems to be a black frame insertion feature, which might matter if you game, but it does dim the image a lot, and has a perceptible flicker to me. I plan to just use the set for movies and sports, and turned off as much motion smoothing etc as possible, and am really happy with the results. No dirty screen effect that I could notice, and trying solid shades of grey, the panel looked surprisingly uniform. Overall it exceded my expectations, certainly at this price. Shadow detail in difficult scenes was okay, not mind blowing, but visible (as long as you don't use the "dark" Dolby Vision setting that is the default for some reason).

Unless you're a screen snob, have a preference for ultra-smooth "soap opera" effect, or want 120fps 4k gaming, I think most people won't find anything to complain about, based on the panel I got.

"$80 Delivery" Even the $2000-3000 tvs
Nearest BBuy is an hour away so buying a tv at BBuy appears over.

I purchased the TCL 65R615 back in Dec 2019 from BB for $425 + tax. In the two years since buying it I had my fair share of issues with the TV which appear to have been caused by a combination of panel quality but mostly software (i.e. menu screen would look normal but when going to Live TV or streaming, the screen would "freeze"). Those issues have eventually been resolved over time with help from TCL support team (including an on-site technician visit who replaced the motherboard).

When I saw the Costco Hisense @500 deal I pulled the trigger by quickly glancing at the specs and seeing the 3-year warranty. However, I'm not entirely sure whether this 2021 model has anything "better" on my TCL https://www.tcl.com/us/en/product...-tv-65r615

Refresh rate appears the same, one extra HDMI port for Hisense (I don't use the 3 my TCL has) but the most important thing I noticed is that Hisense's peak brightness tops at 600 nits and 60 local dimming zones while TCL has 1,000 nits peak brightness and 120 dimming zones.

Really curious if anyone who purchased this unit might already have a TCL 6 series unit from late 2019 and can provide their assessment of the two. Thanks in advance

The TV supports HDMI 2.1 "features" i. e. VRR, ALLM, eARC, but since it has a native 60Hz panel, it is unable to achieve true HDMI 2.1 bandwidth (4k@120Hz).
