They can detect a network share and won't back it up unfortunately. If you mount as iSCSI, it works but my Synology won't show files on it in it's file browser this way so you get it one way or the other.

Also one thing to note is any drive that doesn't get files written to it frequently, even if it's internal, is considered archival and will be considered "unplugged" and will have its data removed after 30 days, not just external drives. I have some old drives that hold old data or photos that don't get viewed and I have to remember to add a file to those drives. Got tired of doing that every 25-30 days and paid for the 1 year retention. For the stress and time it saves, $24/yr extra was worth it for me.

I am a current subscriber and have been for years. I could not find any method to pay for future service using the discount. Now that it's a publicly traded company, they can start treating us like we're nothing.

Still alive, literally the only thing I've bought on Cyber Monday.
Same here for online purchases, CyberMonday B&M purchases are another matter Peace

Just bought 2 years for $65, still working as of 10;25 PM Pacific.

Do they allow scheduling for the uploads? 35Mbit upload on my comcast "gigabit" plan is gonna be a real bottleneck.
Yes, you can choose between Continuous, Once Per Day (you set start time and have it stop at set time or when it's done), and Manual

Thanks, I'm playing with it now. Decided to just go ahead and pay for 2 years as I've heard good stuff about backblaze and have been needing some sort of cloud backup anyways.

No linux support on this plan. So no for most NAS.

Seems like a good deal. I've been using Crashplan since way back when (before they dropped the home tier). Anyone have experience using both? Crashplan has been a life saver... it came in handy after the Camp Fire...
I switched from Crashplan to Backblaze. Much better.

Can you do a full restore to your computer?

Can you do a restore of certain programs eg outlook? Say a virus destroys your email and you want to restore it from a past period?

Sorry no one to ask at back blaze before promo goes…. 😊

I currently have about 30 TB worth of data on a synology nas, that I have no back up for.

I just bought 3 14TB external drives as a backup but something like an online backup would be nice, encrypted of course

What would be the best cost effective online storage option for my use?

This is what I am worried about, I won't need to backup an external drive often. Heck, I won't even need to backup an internal drive that often. But I would like something to backup a couple times a year without any hassle
It's $24/yr extra to upgrade to their 1 year data retention plan. I got fed up with the stress of remembering to plug in drives every 30 days even with their e-mail reminders that it was worth it to me.

Yes external. No nas

Unlimited Drives
Plug in any external hard drive by USB, Firewire or Thunderbolt and Backblaze will back it up. Sweet!
SMB share, remote mounting that kind of stuff would work, right?

It can restore any file you need via internet (zip files) or for larger restores, via a hard drive you pay for and get refunded if you return the drive. It doesn't restore programs though, at least not the way you may need it to due to registry changes, etc.
