So i used to think like this, and not sure if ur messing around or not but for those actually asking the question, the Ozark one would work fine for a few trips before it starts to break down.

When you go with REI you are getting quality, durability, weight difference and essentially the best bang for your buck. There are more expensive brands and cheaper brands too but i think REI hits the sweet spot, while still pricy its the best balance you can get. Also id look into it but this one stays warmer too.

With that being said my broke ass still has a cheap random tent 😂

Kindly suggest how I can take my car several miles up a mountain trail made for hiking.

Some of us aim for a bit more adventure than car camping, thanks.

I don't get what all the debate is about or why so many car campers are chiming in. This tent is for specific people; if it's not for you then it's not for you, but that doesn't mean it's not a good deal.

If you plan to camp at a campground near a road, you don't need this tent. There are much cheaper tents that will suit you perfectly.

If you only go ultralight, you don't need this tent. There are lighter tents out there, although oftentimes more expensive.

If you don't plan on camping in the winter/snow, you don't need this tent. There are cheaper, lighter tents for the other 3 seasons.

This tent is for backpackers who want a reasonably light double-walled tent with adjustable ventilation that will serve them from summer through winter and stay solid through moderately heavy winds near the treeline.

Plenty of people can make do with a Coleman tent or their car and that's perfectly fine. This isn't for you. But don't tell other people what they need, as if all of us camp in the same way. Hell if I'd bring an Ozark Trail tent on the PCT.

Yeah, but how do you do that. I'd think some now-a-days would have lining, be it heavier to carry.
Yeah but they suck. I've used UV 50 tents and still was burned. They use a silver type material that reflects the sunlight. Other than that... a tarp? but it wouldn't be breathable.

Sleep in your car with a diesel heater and don't buy the tent for sleeping on the beach. If you get burnt inside the car you could always sleep in the trunk.

Only $258 for a tent? I need to spend at least $5000. Too inexpensive

Yeah, I'm just goofing. Buy a good tent for life or a cheap tent for a couple of trips.
I got my ozark off eBay in 2011. We are coming up on 2022. Still works fine. Several trips a year

This entire thread is people lying to justify their expensive toys. It's a tent. It isn't going to disintegrate on the 3rd trip. What a joke

I am going to be doing some backounty ski trips this winter. If it keeps me dry that is $ well spent. My old 3 season tent is 25 years old, leaks in rain and folds over in the wind...

I haven't been in the market for awhile but I bought a Big AgnesHappy Hooligan UL3 Tent a couple years ago from REI on discount for less than this. I can't comment on the quality vs this one but it has held up well, decently light, and not started any fights with my camping buddies Smilie.
You are suggesting a 3 season tent. The only reason to buy a 3-4 season tent like the posting is if you plan on camping in the snow. Most 4 season tents also have a single door for a reason…

Sorry 6 people (and counting) missed the sarcasm.

Personally I'm just taking a Home Depot tarp and a sleeping bag. I call that "The Bearrito" especially when I store all my food in my pockets.
You're so fat when you go camping, the bears hide their food

Maybe? I just know that my alps tent handles the cold a lot better than my colemans ever did. Giving this a go for winter camping.

Like 20 years ago I went to the beach with a tent super early morning, got there at like 5:30AM when beach opened. Set up tent on beach and we slept till 10AM. We woke up sunburned. The sun went right through the tent.

Is there UV or super UV resistant tents?

Would like to do that again.

If you were are wondering it cost like $50 to camp there 1/4 mile away from beach. I thought it would be nicer and cheaper to boot if we just had car packed. Set alarm for 3AM, drive to beach, get there when the opened at 5:30AM, pay the $20 instead of $50, and set up on beach and sleep in, then wake up on beach. Worked except the sunburn, which made it mostly a fail.
Did you just have the mesh? Rainflys usually have solid UV protection, you could spray it with UV spray as well to help block more though.

If it were an extreme scenario I've seen people put tents under canopies for things like bonneroo etc but that's more for cooling than sunburn.

I would agree to a point we've used an ozark trail tent for car camping and things like the zoofari slumber ( camping overnight at the zoo) in the past. There ABSOLUTELY is a higher markup on these "premium" tents, and for many ( maybe most ) people there is zero reason to buy a tent like this for normal use.

The weight for it only being a two person makes it less desirable ( my msr 4 person is practically the same weight https://www.msrgear.com/shop/arch...10318.html ). The rule of thumb is number of people + 1 for any type of comfort, even though this is roomier than most 2p it's a tight fit.

The nice thing thought is that it's a 3-4 season which means it has better weather resistance, if you are sleeping in higher winds on a cold night this tent will keep you more toasty/dry than an ozark trail but that will only be a fraction of the people out there it really matters to. Case in point I saw plenty of Marmot, North Face, etc tents at the previously mentioned zoofari event when I talked to the parents they said they went to REI and that was what was recommended to them even though they would never use it in a scenario where a ozark trail wouldn't be more than sufficient.

Good, I will wake up in the wilderness warm and dry all by myself.

Homeless people would probably like that air b&b.

Heck they wold love this shelter too. Frown

Is this tent bear proof or bullet proof ? It is a tent made of synthetic fabrics and metal poles. $60 one should be made durable and last. Extra $200 simply makes people satisfied and believe that they purchased a superior product, which actually worth next to nothing.

This tent is a true 3+ season tent. Very durable but fairly lightweight.

I've had the older version of this tent and I would say that this is an excellent 3 plus season tent that will get you through most severe conditions you'll experience in our mountains. I've been in 60 plus mile per hour winds with this tent as well as describe what those guys had to do to go almost a foot of snow on top. I've never had a leak. One thing I would say though in the summertime you need to keep all the vents open but it has a double zipper on the door and you can vent straight out through the door as well as the top and sides. For the money similar tent from marmot or MSR is easily twice as much money. We knew that the helicopter the wait for this sort of tent is fairly lightweight or others in the same category or at least a pound more. If I had the money I would buy this as a upgrade and get my old one to my son.

One upside to the Bearrito: there's that second or two where you'll get a sweet, sweet tongue bath right before your torso is disemboweled.
