If it helps anyone, I emailed Onkyo to ask the difference between this and the TXNR6100; they responded it is just the 10w power difference. They would not comment on the amplifier technology/power supply/etc being the same, but I would hope that it is. I'm going to give it a shot at this price, even though I really want Audessy or Dirac Live

I wish the Onkyo wasn't so deep, it is almost 2 inches deeper than the Denon. I'd upgrade my current Denon if the Onkyo would fit in my nice entertainment center but it won't.

good deal.

FYI if you are interested in the Denon's AVR-S760H. Costco has the Denon back in stock for $450. It was OOO yesterday.

this versus the STR-DH790? . Looks like sony's receiver isn't smart so none of those apps. I'm particularly worried about passthrough on 4k

The previous thread on this deal had a lot of comments, seems pretty solid in comparison to other units.

Pretty much all current AVRs support 4K pass through, as well as HDR pass through.
The Sony only has 4 HDMI inputs which is not very good.

Oddly enough, Receivers aren't listed on their site for the 90-day policy and other forums have people mentioning they fall under the general "Customer Satisfaction" policy where some folks are returning Yamahas they got at Costco after a year.
  • On Merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell, and will refund your purchase price*, with the following exceptions:
    • Electronics: Costco will accept returns within 90 days (from the date the member received the merchandise) for Televisions, Projectors, Major Appliances (refrigerators above 10 cu. ft., freezers, ranges, cooktops, over-the-range microwaves, dishwashers, water heaters, washers and dryers), Computers, Touchscreen Tablets, Smart Watches, Cameras, Aerial Cameras (drones), Camcorders, MP3 players and Cellular Phones (return details will vary by carrier service contract).

Here's a comment on SD from the Yamahas that still don't have proper HDMI 2.1:

A comparable Marantz would likely cost you double the price of this unit. If you want to spend that kind of money look at the Yamaha Aventege models.

Anyone know how much heat this thing puts out? Some receivers get really warm or even hot and I don't want another space heater in my room!

Didn't realize the difference is so big. I wanted to replace Denon too, but this seems like a deal breaker. Thanks for mentioning that!

On paper they do. I have an Onkyo TX-SR373 which is supposed to support 4K/60 and HDR but had all sorts of issues with it handling HDR before I gave up and connected inputs to the TV instead.

I use a Fire Stick 4K, and whenever content would switch from SDR to HDR, it didn't handle the switchover properly. The screen would go berserk and the TV would give an error about the input resolution not being supported. It would work with the Fire's HDR setting as 'always on' but not with 'adaptive'. So, YMMV, but you can't always trust what the manufacturers say on this stuff.

I understand. But I am at the point of my life where I can splurge a little bit. I just recently got a pair of NHT 2.5i front speakers as gift so I want to upgrade my audio setup. I like Marantz models as they have pre-out for the front speakers that leave room for me to use external AMP later. But wifey is already complaining it is too loud...

like I want 80' TV but she wants 50', I want 7.2 with house shaking sound levels but she wants me to use headphone all the time...
