Having gone through a literal 6 hour ordeal in my local Walmart store...these are not always shipped properly activated when purchased online. My first order went absolutely fine, but the second turned into a nightmare (AT&T suspended the line after a day, citing a point-of-purchase error). The local store should be able to fix it, however it's not a guarantee (in my case they returned the phone but couldn't resell it to me because their POS wouldn't scan it - wound up having to sell me a new phone from in-store). And because the e-receipt given to you by Walmart doesn't include the IMEI/SN of the phone you won't be able to get it fixed by AT&T.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do. I plan to use the phone on cricket for some time but plan to switch to visible eventually (is is for my in-laws and we are all on a cricket family deal with about 6 month credit from refill card deals). Should I just plop the cricket sim in and enjoy it while on cricket? Or use an old att sim first? Or use a Verizon sim, get it locked for 60 days and start using it on cricket after that (since Verizon will Auto Unlock at that point)? If I use it with cricket, will it allow unlock in 6 month?
Or maybe the unlock denied message is because the phone really isn't marked as sold yet for att because the Walmart clerk didn't scan it properly?

Subject: We can't complete your unlock request right now
Looks like the information we need isn't in our database yet.
Device IMEI number: xxxxx
Request number: xxxxx
Hi xxxxx,
Wait a few days and then submit a new request when you're ready to try again.

Luckily, I'm in no hurry to start using the device. So I'll leave the box unopened and try again next week.
