So I guess after tax, it's around $200... For phone, 3 months, etc. If there's a $60(?) credit remaining for the 3rd month, maybe you can join a cricket group for $25/mo to get more time out of it... The terms seem to say the first two months must be on the $60 unlimited plan, so this seems like the way to go - if you want the phone to be unlocked.
I guess though if someone wanted to save money, they could have bought one of those total wireless iphone SEs for cheap the other day, and used RSIM to "unlock"... But it's kind of janky, and I think one or two of my RSIMs were defective, and that's why I had issues doing it initially
Since Cricket changed their promotion term to 3 months of service payment up front + not downgradeable to cheaper plan for those 3 months, I don't think their deals are worth it. If you need to get the phone unlocked, you will need to pay another $65 (3 additional months of $30 minus $25 credit from referral). So, that will bring the total up to $245.
tbh, depending on what you are planning to do with the phone, the Tracfone deal on iPhone SE may be a better deal for you. ~$147 for the phone + 1 mo of service and no port in requirement. Only bad thing is that the Phone is locked to Tracfone for 12 months.
For those who bought these device + 3 months of $60 cricket service deals (SE2, XR, etc.) have any of you had any success with downgrading on the day of activation?
There is conflicting info. Many folks on previous discussion (the url you have above) say that one can downgrade to $30/month plan as soon as phone is activated with cricket, essentially utilizing $180 over 6 months. While others say that one cannot downgrade to anything less than $60/month for first 3 months. What is the truth?

For anyone already on Cricket needing an upgrade, although it wasn't advertised I just upgraded one of my phones to this iPhone basically for free from my account. Selected the 'current customer' option and picked the cell number for the phone I wanted to upgrade and total cost at the end was a dollar. Just received it in the mail today. Does it mean that I have to stay with Cricket for another 6 months? Maybe, but I was going to do that anyway.

So the phone you got in mail is a locked phone. My guess is you would need another 6 months of service to get it unlocked.

Yes I downgraded to $40 plan the next day. This was last week had to go through customer service since the account page didn't let me do it
Edit: I bought an iPhone XR , definitely a good choice unless you are looking for a very small phone

For the current offer you are required to pay the 3 months upfront or 180 dollars plus taxes.
Req's new account and purchase of 3 months of $60/mo. plan. First 3 months svc. charge & tax due at sale. Account will remain subscribed to $60/mo. plan for three months.

Can I downgrade the $60 plan after the first 30 days, then use the remaining $120 credit towards the $35 (or other) plan?
Or are you absolutely locked into the first 3 months at the $60 per month plan, then eligible to downgrade plans after those 90 days are up?
