Better get it now and have it installed before YouTube gets removed. I am slowly moving all tv away from Roku. Too many disputes. 1st it was HBO that took about 8 months to resolve, the. YouTube TV, now YouTube and I read that there is a dispute with Amazon.in the horizon.
I think roku will realize they have to play ball with Amazon and eventually Google. they are standing up to the massive tech giants around what data is collected.. amazon can hurt 2 ways both lost of prime video but also let's say a ban of roku on Amazon market place...Amazon has done that before. lawsuits will ensue probably antitrust since both are competitors of roku and bigger trying to hurt the little guy who fair and square won more market share then they did. Google and Amazon are just taking their toys and going home hoping pressure roku.

Yes the Chromecast is a much better deal. Like $10 after Netflix credit and you don't get all these dumb disputes where services are taken away like with Roku
Meanwhile I've got 3 chromecasts (newest one with Google TV) just sitting doing nothing while my Rokus are used every day.

I keep hearing about disputes but I have yet to have any issues accessing my services on the daily. I use YouTube, YouTubeTV, Hulu, Netflix, Prime, and Plex

First off Roku isn't a "little guy" They are a company worth billions. Secondly Roku does more data collection than anyone. These things are constantly pinging Roku's servers to send your data to them and they are continually trying to monetize Rokus with more and more ads every day. Around the time I stopped using the Roku I started getting ads that changed the entire theme of the device even though I had set a specific background.

I've had android tv devices for almost 5 years now and haven't had an issue with Amazon Video being pulled the entire time. In the last couple of years alone, Roku has had fights with multiple streaming services, sometimes more than once. You don't see these issues happening with Apple TV or Android TV, so the root cause of these issues seem to be Roku themselves trying to make more profits.
Those two have been out way less than Roku. If you read anything Google wanted info on Roku users. Roku didn't want to comply. LMAO

Honest question. Do you need devices like roku if you have a smart tv that has most of these services already (netflix, amazon, etc)? I have a Samsung TV and use youtubetv...so just want to ensure I'm not missing out on anything. Thanks.

You're not missing anything if you have everything you need. Roku is for older smart TV that are no longer getting updates or non-smart tvs

Get the fire stick 4K Max, it does everything that matters for less.
Except use Ethernet.

Reading these comments sometimes I feel like I'm in the minority because I'm pretty happy with Roku and haven't had a need to upgrade in 2 years. Currently have one Roku TV, 3 streaming sticks, an Ultra… and an Apple TV.

That automatic changing of theme can be disabled in settings. Setting up PiHole is a great investment if you want whole network ad-blocking, including the ones that would show up on Roku sidebar.

Right. Been thinking the same, likely many people are.
Also, even if you have You Tube after Roku does not allow it to be installed, occasionally one may need to uninstall You Tube and re install You Tube to fix a glitch---will not be able to re install YT.
That and ROKU loves ads.. There are now 2 ads on the Roku home page. Imo, wont be long for 3 and 4 ads--maybe even a video ad at some point.

You Tube Premium channel is the only channel i can watch on Roku without stumbling into ads.

Question to everyone - I am thinking of cutting the cord and is comparing this Roku Ultra vs. Nvidia Shield Pro. What's your thoughts?? Thanks.

I have an Shield from 2015 and still works flawlessly. My 3 year old Roku Ultra does as well.

My shield also serves as my Plex server.

My Roku 3 is getting old and slow. Is this a worthy upgrade?
