Worse resolution than the Quest 2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Com...adsets.png

Worse refresh rate: Quest 2, 120hz in PCVR mode, 90hz for the Cosmos Elite.

Quest 2 is wireless out of the box to your PC. Vive needs another adapter to become wireless that costs more than the Quest 2 itself.

The Quest 2 is half this price... who is buying this useless piece of hardware?

Competition is always a good thing, and there are some people out there willing to pay a premium to not have to use Facebook's product. FB is 100% eating a loss selling the Quest 2 at that price because they expect to make it back in the long term with software. HTC doesn't have the ecosystem to prop them up like that.

The Facebook/Meta account requirement is being removed. Additionally, you can either sideload games onto it, or still use it with your computer...meaning you could play everything through Steam/Epic etc. if you'd prefer. If you have the PC for this, then it makes more sense to buy the Quest 2 IMO.

Last I checked, they announced that you don't need the Facebook account to be linked, but not sure about Meta. That being said, it's still Facebook's product since they own Oculus, and some people(not me) care enough about that connection to not want their product because they don't want to support FB in any way, shape, or form.

Not wanting the FB connection and paying more for less doesn't sound like competition to me.

I know FB tries to vet fake accounts from real ones, but its not that hard to take a few photos from the internet and make a fake profile. Which is worth the effort monetarily speaking as you get store credit for being referred by someone else in your FB friends list.

That said, could all be moot soon anyways if they take that requirement away completely.

To each their own, I guess.... but with the relative ease to make a fake account, get free credit to buy stuff and you get a better system for less - it's hard to respect anyone's decision to go for this Vive.

You hit every points out there except that the vive has better latency when it comes to being a wireless pcvr hmd. Also its easier if you want full body tracking and IMO the best VR controller(index controller)

With that being said. Im with you " The Quest 2 is half this price, who is buying this useless piece of hardware"

When I regestered my quest a few days ago, it had an option to not link to FB, but it did say a FB account would be required on Jan 1, 2023. ♀️🤷

I just use a dummy account. F FB!

What will happen to the games that I buy using oculus account? If they force us to use fb account later, will those apps still accessible? Has anyone registered oculus quest 2 recently without fb account? I bought it in a sale this week but not yet opened.

FB is reversing the requirement of FB account to use Oculus Quest 2. They finally hear what VR users want. Instead you will only need that new meta verse account. 🤣

If you use an app on your phone\tablet that uses Facebook's (aka Lifelog) data (even if you don't own the app), they already got your data through another app. Those people that you are talking about, are too late to the party, The govt got everything on them and China got everything on their kids using Musical.ly\TikTok. Its a dirty game, but everyone should know by now that governments play it the dirtiest.

Major downside of Quest 2 is FaceBook and their locked in platform and spy network, which immediately disqualifies it from consideration. That said, I wouldn't buy Cosmos either.

I don't have to continue to give them data. They may have my past, but the future is still mine.

Doesn't matter. You still have to "trust" facebook, which is basically an oxymoron at this point.

I bought a Quest 2 from that walmart deal and after trying out a few things, I don't know why anyone would want to use any VR headset.

Agreed. Besides this is Slick Deals... you figure the best value in VR headsets would sway the tin-foil cheapskates to just shut up and make a fake FB account would be great, but apparently its a hill they want to die on even though there is a free escalator on and off... lol
Sometimes , some hills are worth dying on.
You might not care enough but some people are willing to spend extra for sticking to their principles.

It doesn't matter that this is Slickdeals. The worth of a product isn't just always the lowest number

All that being said. This doesn't look like a really great deal considering the specs
