This will not work for unlocking. Using the pre-loaded Tracfone SIM intended for BYOD devices will not unlock a Tracfone-branded (or Simple-Mobile branded) phone. The service will work fine, but not the unlocking.
Sign up for the email list and get 25% off. Also, your price doesn't include the plan cost that is required.

It doesn't work that way... Which network the MVNO is using have nothing to do with whether the phone is usable on another MVNO. This phone won't work with Mint Mobile until it is unlocked either after 12 months of service or using things like Rsim.

Btw, Simple mobile phones do work on Tracfone, Total Wireless, Net10, etc because they are owned by the same company.

I think the problem is that the iPhone will still not be unlockable at the end of the year. It will be useable with Tracfone but wont be unlockable so a problem if you ever move out of Tracfone
Need to use original sim for 12 months & also add service - if switching to BYOP preloaded sim I can find no one that will confirm it will be unlockable other than this one person. Long time TF users on Howard Forums also say the BYOP sim will not qualify for unlock so YMMV if you want to try it. Personally I wouldn't want to wait a year only to find out they refuse to unlock, especially now that Verizon has bought the company and no one knows how they will handle unlocking (or anything else for that matter). Things are very much up in the air.

Are there any quick alternatives to unlock this phone without having to wait whole 12 months ?
You can jailbreak it, then use gray rhino to unlock costs $5

Thanks! between your comments and OPs comments, it sounds like no one should count on it. If it happens, I'll consider it a bonus! Still a great deal. Besides, in a year there will probably be a better deal on a better iPhone anyway and this can be for trade or backup.
I personally unlocked a TW iphone 8+ in Sept, it was activated on TF using the original sim as a TF. I also activated a TW XR as a TF a few months ago it shows in my TF account as a locked TF so will unlock next yr as long as Verizon doesn't mess things up.

The Rsim thing works, but you need to get it from a reliable seller, and I simply don't know of any good ones

I tried two different Rsim sellers on ebay and both failed. Who do you recommend?

While we don't agree on much, you and I:

I do want to thank you for taking the time to give us your point of view

I stopped reading the comments on a past thread for Rsim info. There is just so much to learn about those πŸ€” if it wasn't you, then you were part of that thread cause I do remember your user name.

Purchased as a keeper, wish to unlock. I've read the forum and understand a lot of this is up in the air, but if any experts could help:
Would Gevey, RSIM, etc be an easier, more reliable method of unlocking over Jailbreak?

Oregon14 just recommended the below. You can ask him directly under the comments, since he has experience with the rsims:

No I don't, I've used Tracfone for years (with several lines), I've no need for RSIM. I unlock my phones by using on Tracfone with their service.

Don't know where you got that idea.

I did Verizon since the iPhone I had was compatible with their network. I live in Los Angeles so all major networks are available here.
As for which one is best? Idk I use the phone mostly for internet purposes, not so much for phone usage quality πŸ€”
Quote from KABUKI-POSH :
It worked for me because I did not turn on the phone until Tracfone sim was inserted.
You can always get a Rsim for about $10-15 at eBay

So Kabuki-Posh, how did you find out if your phone works with Verizon without switching it on Simple network?

ie. how did you know to order Verizon Tracfone SIM (instead of ATT/TMobile) ?

Will Simple Mobile customer service tell you before you active the phone in Simple ?

I bought my 12 year old daughter an iPhone XR last summer on Simple Mobile. The service was identical to my AT&T, so I switched myself over to her Simple Mobile account (BYOD). It's been great, zero complaints. We pay $55 for both our lines (I get 5-GB of data / she get's 3GB's per month).
My wife is still on AT&T and pays $85 (Unlimited).
I bought this same iPhone SE for my son's birthday (which is today) 3 weeks ago (but $200 at Simple Mobile), add $20 per month for his line = 3 lines for $75 per month

And now this deal? SWEET! I'll buy this for my wife as a Christmas present. If I can get her to switch to Simple Mobile, I can get 4 lines for $95 per month (or 100% unlimited everything for $135 per month) ZERO CONTRACTS! (But if my wife doesn't want to switch from a Galaxy 9S to an iPhone SE, then I'm fuct)
