I have been regularly carrying a Bugout 535 for a while now and it is fantastic. Deep carry, great blade profile, super light weight. S30V blade as well.

Eh, it's an enthusiast thing. People have done a good job of explaining the why of its cost. That said, unless you need something like this for a job where your life might depend on it, you only buy a knife like this because you're into pocket knives as a hobby. Think Timex vs Rolex....both function just fine, but there are good reasons one is much more expensive.
I'm poor, an Ontario works great for me. However, I'd really like to get a Benchmade, lol!

What do people use these folding knives for unless your hunting/camping?

Para 2 Tanto, Para 3 LW, Sage 5 LW, Native Chief and Smock. The Native Chief is the only DLC blade of the five.
M4 is a great steel, stays sharp a long time, pretty tough but it will corrode if neglected.
Most of the BHQ M4 knives become pretty collectible over time.

If the design appeals to you, it'll definitely be a workhorse, and well worth the money.
For me, I much prefer the Bugout - have had 2 in use for the past 3yrs.
