My advice: don't buy any coffee maker for camping.
good freeze-dried instant coffee will taste as good as anything you make in a campsite. Plus, it is cheap and light. Hagen makes a really good one, and HEB uses them for their Central Market generic.

Boil water, add instant, done.

Just make sure it is "freeze-dried". It is a completely different method than cheap instant coffee and doesn't taste like burnt ass.

A big cash back site I don't think SD will let us reference... I haven't looked up the policy of Slickdeals, but I think I've seen other people do something about that

Does anyone have experience with the French press? Some of the Amazon reviews look concerning (melting)

Stanley's website: "should not be used over any open flames."

I'm going to guess and say that is because people will put the entire press (with plastic parts) over the fire instead of boiling the water/coffee and then taking it off the flame.

Bought that and the cook set! Thanks OP!

I've had one is these adventure cook sets for a long time. It's held up well, to even after a friend of mine ran it over with his SUV. It's an awesome piece of budget camp kit.

The biggest drawback is the small diameter for it's capacity. It's relatively tall and narrow. When using it over an isobutane camp stove (think MSR Pocket Rocket) a lot of heat is lost off the sides. It's not a big deal for me, but if you need to be ultra efficient with your fuel, it's not the best.

If anyone is looking at the camp cook kettle kit, as close comparison I got the cookware pot (1.58 qt) and 2 bowls kit recently. I almost bought this one but I needed the wider base for my biolite stove.

Overall I really liked it. I cooked over the fire in biolight. I was able to clean it back to stanless with no staining with a blue (no scratch) scouring pad. It was high quality and worked well. The cups looks just like the bowls and are pretty thick but heavy. For my specific trip i swapped them for disposable bowls but will use them in the future.

The one i bought it on sale for 24 right now and I think I paid 25 at walmart in the Fall. Reg price is 35.

I'd be tempted by the fry pan set now too. if amazon had matched it I probably would. they matched some of the others, but not that one

We've got the French press and love it. I can't imagine any issues with it unless people aren't following instructions.

exactly. if you move up to one of them that looks more like a pot (there is a small one and then a bigger one) it works great on that kind of stove.

I kind of disagree here. If you bring a Ziploc full of coffee, heat up some water and run it through an aeropress you'll get a quality cup of coffee in the morning that takes maybe 1min 20 sec longer than instant coffee but tastes much better

I am not a coffee drinker, but I would think a lot of people would disagree with that. Especially if you are going camping you have chance at already having the gear to do this really easily.

A friend of mine just opened up a coffee roasting business. He had stopped by previously with his mobile setup. It was a jet boil to get the water going and a pour over top into a mug. Same stove you could have camping and my wife said it was amazing. If you already have a way to boil water the stanley coffee options would work great.

I kind of agree and disagree, but my take is: learn how to use a Moka pot well. Like really really well.

Once you do, well you get to enjoy the same quality coffee at camp from your Moka pot. All you need then is a consistent heat source.

I used to have a coffee shop in Seattle and tried all sorts of coffeemaking tricks during hiking camping sailing but ended up with freeze-dried coffee (Starbucks Via). I can even make one inside the kayak in the sea (with hot water in the vacuum bottle).

Other methods are surely more fun especially with watching eyes at the campground, so by no means I'm saying freeze-dried is 'better', but the convenience factor is really something to try and see for onself. It tastes very decent, too.
